Watching Doug Demuros review of the TRD Off Road. If you notice in the the brake booster is the normal ABS only unit under the hood and the the bigger Hydro boost unit for ATRAC is gone. Also I did not see a button in his video to engage ATRAC.

Seems like Toyota cheaped out on the 'Off Road' version? This is a bummer as the Off Road version has the best value IMO.

My 2nd gen TRD Off Road has ATRAC, 4rd gen tacoma has it, and my buddies 2018 4runner TRD Off Road has ATRAC as well, but no ATRAC for the 4th gen OR?

My old 2015 had it and 2017 has it, awesome system and a shame if they deleted it.

Yes big shame. Not sure they are leaving crawl control ATRAC, etc for the premium models?

Here's ATRAC info from Toyota...but I'm sure you went there first and missed this info.

    Thanks good to know.

I was just looking at the engine bay which it clearly didnt have ATRAC on the OR model. This could be due to not being a production model possibly.

They may have figured out a more efficient way of running the A-TRAC system without the need of the previous Gens style Brake Booster.

The electronic booster in 2nd/3rd gen was necessary to maintain braking power (to brake the slipping wheel) while you're giving it gas, since there will be no intake vacuum. On the 4th gen, there's no intake vacuum because of the turbo, so there's a camshaft-driven vacuum pump:

Therefore the electronic booster is no longer needed. A-Trac is said to engage automatically now with no driver intervention on OR MT models:

(A-Trac had been superseded by MTS on AT models since 3rd gen in 2016)

I don't know why the hybrid models keep the electronic booster, though that's always been in Toyota's hybrids since forever. Here's a Prius with electronic booster:

BTW "hydroboost" is a GM thing, using power steering pump pressure to assist the brakes. A leak in the line takes out both power steering and power brakes... Toyota never had it. And now the steering is electric.

Slight improvement on the crawl ratio but wish it was higher like the jeeps on the Offroad and up models. Be interesting to see who will be the first ones to cut open these trucks for a dual transfer case.

^Yeah interesting to see the low range ratio unchanged. Not sure if they kept the same transfer case as 3rd gen (which was beefed up slightly over 2nd gen). They might have since the manual 6-speed is carried over.

Toyota use a different booster on hybrids to allow for the same or similar pedal feel when using regenerative brakes vs. hydraulic brakes.

A-TRAC has existed in vehicles with vacuum or hydraulic boosters on previous Toyota models. The hydraulic booster is not a specific requirement for A-TRAC.

^Curious which model had A-Trac with a vacuum booster before?

In at least one of the reviews I watched today, it was said that A-TRAC is still used, but it sounded like it might be automatic with the computer.(?) I can't remember if it was TFL or Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk, but it was either the chief engineer or the Toyota rep who was riding in the truck with them who mentioned that.

Does anybody know if the manual Sport loses ATRAC (vs manual Offroad)? I noticed on Toyota's build compare, the Sport Auto has no MTS - Offroad Auto does have it. Wonder if the same applies to ATRAC? I can't find mention of it on any Toyota doc
