Anyone running Dirt King balljoint UCA with 35/12.5/17? My 295s need replacement badly. I've got a cmr, pinchweld smashed, plastic trimmed and aftermarket front bumper

I have cmr, spc uca, 35x12.5 mt, -38. Just swapped out the Ironman UCA from the recalled. Things finally smooth out.

Just mounted the 315/70/17 BFG KO2s, cab mount relocate, and trimmed (awaiting front bumper). I was on 33s with no issues ,but now I get rubbing near full lock on the UCAs. I have 17x9 wheels with -12 offset. I'm considering adding wheel spacers to get clear of the UCAs, but have concerns running a -12 offset wheel that this may create other problems. Anyone currently doing something similar?

I have not run 35's, but I have run a few other various wheels and tire combos and in my experience if you are rubbing your UCA's, then you need your wheels pushed out further. Which means either wheel spacers or more aggressively offset wheels. 9" wide with -12mm offset is a 4.5"BS. That is pretty close into the body of the truck. There is a decent selection of wheels in a 8.5" width with a -10 offset which pushes the wheel out about 1/4". If you love the wheel you have you can also get .5" or .75" wheel spacers.

However you decipher it, you need to push your wheels out further away from the truck to fit a 315 width tire.

I'm pretty happy with my wheels and want to keep them, so it's either spacers, or replace the upper UCAs with a different profile. Currently using JBA UCAs. Alignment is perfect (no actual numbers to report at the moment), so I'd like to leave this part alone if I can as well. I initially reached out to another shop regarding this situation. They didn't seem to like the idea of adding a spacer to a -12 offset wheel. He eluded to wheel bearing issues? This is my concern. I had no plans to go aggressive with them, and likely just enough to get the needed clearance. I don't do any aggressive wheeling, mainly trails to get to camp site or hiking trails. Thank you for the reply. It helped!

I am looking to upgrade my 285/70R17 K02s to some 315/70R17 K02s and I am also running JBAs, so I'm happy to be reading this thread! You may have already seen this, but JBA has some really helpful info on their website to help determine which wheel specs will help you clear their UCAs. Here is the link to the full FAQ and below is the excerpt specifically for the 315/70R17 K02s on a Taco. Hopefully this helps!

    BFG K02s at 315/70 R17 (34.4" x 12.4") 12.4" wide tire:

12.4" wide tire, if the factory wheel is 7" wide, you need a 3.50" backspace or smaller to clear the JBA ucas.

12.4" wide tire, if the factory wheel is 7.5" wide, you need a 3.75" backspace or smaller to clear the JBA ucas.

12.4" wide tire, if the factory wheel is 8" wide, you need a 4.00" backspace or smaller to clear the JBA ucas.

12.4" wide tire, if the factory wheel is 8.5" wide, you need a 4.25" backspace or smaller to clear the JBA ucas.

12.4" wide tire, if the wheel is 9" wide, you need a 4.50" backspace or smaller to clear the JBA ucas.

12.4" wide tire, the above will have .025” tire clearance to the JBA arms at full lock of the steering wheel, with that wheel and tire setup. If you need a smaller back space a wheel spacer is needed, most common spacer is 1.25" thick. This is only tire to a-arm clearance, you may still need to do body mount chop and clearance the wheel wells and front bumper.

This is very helpful info! Thanks for posting. I had 33s (same wheel and tire brand) prior to this, and was one of the lucky ones that did not require any cutting or modding. It seems I'm making up for that now, tho lol! I did the cab mount relocate, pinch welds, cut/trim reshape the inner wells and it all comes down to the UCA rubbing now. I may be out of luck on running spacers though. I contacted Fuel Wheel to ask for insight and they simply said it's strongly discouraged for "safety reasons". Could be the -12 offset of the wheel or just a generic statement. I don't know because I couldn't get clarification. I'm hopeful when the new front bumper gets installed it will help with adjustments making UCA clearance. I really don't want to change my wheels...

Tons of people use wheel spacers. Just don't go cheap on them.

Custom hub centric Bora wheel spacers is the way to go. Been on my Taco for almost 3yrs .75" on 17x8.5 0 offset (4.75bs). No rubbing anywhere fulllock with toyo 35/12.5/17 JBA UCA, CMC. 4" lift. I will say I rub on the cab mount only on reverse near fulllock none on UCA.

Thanks for this. My problem seems to be the backspacing of my current wheel which is already at 4.5. Per the JBA site, my current wheel/tire combo should clear their UCA, but doesn't. Adding a spacer of .75" should get me the clearance and change my overall BS to 3.75, if I'm figuring correctly. I personally do not see where this would be a problem and why the wheel company I acquired wheels from would say not to do it. Unless someone can convince me it's too big of a gamble, I'm going to go this route. Appreciate all the info and assistance. I hope to be able to return the gesture some day.

I decided to move forward with spacers. Went with BORA @ 7/8". I personally didn't want anymore poke than I currently have with the 35s. I likely could've just gone the full inch, but this will at least ensure there's no hub stud peeking thru and gives me the needed UCA clearance. Should have them in a couple of weeks and I'll post an update. Screenshot_20231129_175646_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20231129_175247_Gallery.jpg

Looks great man! Honestly that’s way less poke than I expected. Thanks for posting and providing the knowledge. I’m sure they’ll work great.

I finally received my BORA 1" spacers and installed them. Tires clear the UCAs, but as expected now rub on the pinch welds. I've trimmed and cut away more metal and finally have no more tire rubbing. I may need to upgrade my 600# coils though. I'm about to add a bumper and winch up front which I'm sure will cause some front sag. Until then, I'll enjoy the rub-free ride!20231228_174005.jpg
