i posted this in the new members area but no one had any thoughts on it.

I am looking for a new truck(second truck ever, first one i will be paying for) and started looking at tacoma's. I test drove my first today and instantly fell in love. It is a 2005 SR5 4x4 access cab 2.7l. upon close inspection i discovered what i believe to be a stock lift kit with the blue and yellow bilstein shocks(not sure on the specifics, read about them in a thread the other day and noticed them when i was looking the truck over).

Now, i would be all over this truck except that it is listed for just under $15k and has 102K miles. This doesn't worry me all that much because i understand people drive theres to well over 200k. I looked at the frame and there is no real visable rust going on. I have a trade in so hopefully i will be making a deal for less than the asking price.

    Is this a good deal/truck???

    Thank You!

Try KBB.com... and get as close to the exact specs you think the truck is in since you've seen it first hand... Is it an automatic? Manual 5spd/6spd? There would be quite a few things you'll have to fill in on their website... But the closest i've come to (Within your above condition) is about 9.5k... Guesstimate. Best of luck!

Hold out and be patient. It took me 2 months to find mine and I drove 5 hours. But Im happy because it was exactly what I wanted. Did a lot of reading too. :D

its a five speed manual. i put it into KBB ant its gave me 14,725 for excellent condition and this truck is pretty close to that as far as i can tell.

I am new to toyota but i've noticed that anything 2nd generation under 100k miles is well over $15,000 which is out of my budget. unless its a base model regular cab and that not what i want.

100k is still kind of young for a tacoma isnt it?

    thanks.

I bought my 07 Access cab with 117k on it. V6 4.0L Automatic

Runs great. Has 133k on it now. As long as you do the oil changes every ~5k miles, your truck will run forever.

Completely depends on the maintenance for the last 100K miles. Without records its a crap shoot. These are not immune from maintenance supertrucks. They WILL run a long long time only if maintained by the book.
I certainly would not pay $15K for any Taco with 100K miles.

i have some time to get my finances together so i plan on looking around a bit more but im hoping this one works out.

its only had one owner and the guy only used it to commute. the salesman claims he kept up with the scheduled maintenance....but hes a salesman so who knows.

exactly. my only concern would be, and i know it wouldn't be the same for everyone, but i've heard some complaints on here about the manual transmission. it apparently shifts hard and the only way some people can get it back into first is if they're at a COMPLETE stop.

unless you have driven the truck and are completely comfortable with the way that it handles. then go for it! i spent every penny i had on my truck

    and i regret nothing.

thanks again. i did test drive it and after driving my manual 98 dakota for 5 years with the stiffest clutch ever...it felt like a dream. i think the "hard shifts" is because its a very short clutch so there isnt much room to slip it in nice and easy(talking out my ass right now...i know nothing about trucks :notsure:). and my truck doesnt go into first unless stopped so im used to that.

i dont plan on paying 15k either. im hoping for 10k-ish and my truck.

Exactly what Steven said. My '07 was 16500.

Hopefully you'll get a good trade in on your truck though. These trucks will run for as long as you want them to, and are fun to make your own.

yea i loved my dakota. mainly because it was a hand-me-down from my dad and i didnt have to pay anything for it haha. but 8mpgs, regular cab, and no 4 wheel drive is killing me. i dread driving it now. its at 207k miles and starting to fall apart.

Yeah. My buddy gave me hella about how I paid 16500 for my little Taco and he paid 14k for his 04 F250 with its 6" lift etc....

but when his alternator went out 2 weeks later, I told him that's why I paid more, because when I put money into my Tacoma, it won't be to fix it.

I found mine an hour away a 07 access cab 4 wd v6 base everything with 99000 I paid 10000 for it but they gave me a grand for a slaab 9-3 with a ton of miles and rust issues.I found it at a used car lot coming home from a dealer actually went and looked at a nissan I am so happy that I got a my toyota instead the nissan was a piece and they wanted alot more for it too. It took me a few weeks to find my truck hang in there they last forever maybe that is why they are so hard to find most people dont part with them.
