If you came here with a post like this expecting serious answers,,,, well that's on you. I'm not sure there is any good answer...

    1. Need to rev the engine. It likes it rough. This post explains it well
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/enough-already-your-trucks-t-hp-and-rpm-explained.574429/

    2. Tune/Pedal Commander/Sprint Booster: will help to varying degrees depending who you talk to. Tuners are smug bastards (hahahaha), similar to Tesla owners. I have sprint booster, its OK seems like all it does is adjust throttle response...

    dog are awesome.

I had an Infiniti QX4 with that 3.3. If your Taco isn't VASTLY SUPERIOR in acceleration and driveability compared to that sled, then your Taco is totally fooked.
    Either that or you're trolling.

170hp saddled with 4500lbs is dreadful.

Your truck has really low mileage. The truck is new. My advice is simply, the Tacoma is not good on gas, they not very fast nor quick or a power house of horse power. You’re correct they are dogs. Like all dogs in life, some are better than others, and not all dogs are what we expect them to be or want. So it boils down if we like them enough to keep them or part company. If you choose to keep this dog it may in fact last you many many years of loyalty. My 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Damn right we are. :cookiemonster:

Highly doubt it from the few symptoms described. The first learning curve sets in at around 1500 miles and seems to want to remap your habits at a similar interval, from what I observed on my two trucks. He said he's at 5-something-k, so it's gone through a couple of throttle mapping cycles. The first few are the most jarring, because you're trying to change your foot to the truck, and then all of a sudden the truck changes the pedal based on your foot.

On both of my trucks I really hated the period between 1500 miles and 5000 miles, and then we kind of figured each other out and it was all hunky dory again for the next 30k.

... and then I got it tuned. :stirthepot:

have you tried fuel from a different location? likely not the problem but it's worth a try.

what elevation do you live/drive at and what has the outside temperature been when you noticed this reduced performance and fuel mileage? higher elevation, cold outside temperatures, and winter fuel blend have a very noticeable effect on this truck's performance and fuel mileage.

assuming it is not something with the engine, your options are to get a tune as others already suggested, trade it in for a tacoma with a manual transmission or, trade it in for a different brand truck.

good luck and keep us posted if you are able to make improvements.

If it truly is not driving as well as it had new, and the mileage is substantially diminished, take it to the dealer and let them check it out. Or, find someone with a similarly equipped Gen 3 and give it a test drive. Does it drive the same as yours? These trucks are not speedsters; but mine drives fine and, if anything, my mileage has improved over the 6000 miles (a new 2023).

I will echo the tune option (KDMax, OTT) others have mentioned. It doesn’t completely transform the truck but makes it much more fun to drive and decreases the lag quite a bit.

Disclaimer: Recently there’s been reports of people failing emissions from tunes, so something to consider if emissions testing is a thing where you live.

As it always has been. I'll not hesitate to lay the gnarliest trauma upon my siblings, but we are a united front when it's time to bag on the cousin's graduation party.

You can always block those you proclaim as comedians but some of these people know shit so you'd be missing some advice down the road. Been here since 2006, I turn 70 next month so I don't know how extended your age is but lighten up and have a little sense of humor. Makes life much better.
My 2023 just turned 5600 miles and the drive is not the same as my 2015 was . It's different and I've learned to drive it accordingly. Not a dog to me and the ECT button is my friend when I want to go hard.

I’ve had 3 Toyota trucks over the years, a 1984 4 banger not a lot of power ,never left me walking and would go straight up if you could hang on. My next was a 2003 Tundra v8, power to spare worst fuel mileage ever 12-14 mpg. Now with 2100 miles on my 2023 Tacoma sport I couldn’t be happier, good power curve great fuel economy at 19-22 mpg. In conclusion with all the pluses and minuses (just like owning dogs) I love all of them and wouldn’t change a thing. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

I had issues with my ‘23 Tacoma Limited DC’s drivability from the start. Throttle lag and constant shift-hunting of trans. Wasn’t willing to live with it when it was obvious from research that a tune would be my salvation. Went with OTT at 500 miles. Problem solved.

I'm not young, I'm not old, I'm somewhere in the middle. At least that's what I keep telling that ugly codger that lives in my mirror.

But when I was a kid, I'd sometimes ask for advice and I caught a hell of a lot of grief at my expense for it. It hits harder when it's actual people looking at your car and asking "so how many people got killed in that wreck"... as opposed to a faceless wall of text. However, I learned real quick that if I could roll with the jokes and socialize like a grown up, then the advice became 10 times as valuable.

It's one of those weird human rituals. Demonstrate that you aren't here to have your hand held and your head gently patted, and people will bend over backwards to share their knowledge.
