2023 bed liner

Hi everyone! I just got my 2023 Trd sport access cab and I’d like to know is the factory bedliner adequate or should I invest in a line X

 

there is no such thing as a factory bedliner lol. however a factory bed mat does exist.

 

So the plastic walls and floor is not a bedliner that is the bed is that true?

 

The composite factory bed has been fine for me.

 

yep. Composite (read: plastic) beds from 2005 onward.

Bed Mat is nice to prevent things from sliding around, but not really needed for most cargo

 

When I drilled into my 2007 I got white dust more like fiberglass than plastic.

 

fiberglass is a composite. but it's not the only composite either.

 

The factory bed is composite. Used my truck for moving furniture and deer hunting and it’s durable. If you have the bucks add the OEM bed mat. Keeps things from sliding around back there and easy to pull out and hose clean when needed.

It would be cool to have a guinea pig get the plastic bed Line Xd just for the hell of it. Kind of like how I'd like someone on a brand new 3rd gen to never change the oil so we can put this whole 5k-10k controversy to bed. I bet a new truck makes it 100k w/o the 1st oil change.

 

Been fine in my ‘14. It doesn’t rust but fiberglass will show wear.

 

The new Tundra has a composite bed also, and it has a factory liner option similar to Line X. I think it is mostly to make it less slippery.

 

absolutely possible to bed line a composite bed, as the bed liner is just a coating. it's extremely common in the offroading community to bed line the bottom edge of offroad vehicles, as the coating is tougher than standard paint, and hides trail damage better. a coworker has his entire jeep bedlined just to be different.

there is an advantage to bedlining it, as it becomes a sacrificial wear layer, and depending on the coating, and can be more robust than the factory composite material.

 

not common to do, but people on here have done it. Not sure of long term durability.

 

really comes down to the quality and thickness of the coating. the off-the-shelf aerosol can bed liners, even 6-10 coats thick won't compare to 2 coats of a 2k raptor liner, which likely won't compare to a professionally-applied, chemically-mixed formulation.

 

I agree, I meant more along the lines of long term bonding to the bed surface after prep.

 

I'm not a fan of spray in bed liners. Over time they wear out just like anything else. I'll take a rubber bed mat every time over a spray in liner. Even though not needed to protect the Tacoma composite bed they do keep stuff from sliding around in the bed and since I have a cap on my truck they are a lot easier on the knees if I need to get in there.

The composite bed in my 17 year old Tacoma has held up better than steel beds on trucks of the same age. I have no doubts about it.

 

Only reason I puchased a liner was to keep stuff from sliding everywhere.
The pretection of scuffing the bed is also a plus.
