Well, long story short......I saved up, moved money around, sold another vehicle and finished my school all to buy a Tacoma yesterday. Salesman was awesome, nicest guy you will ever meet. Worked out what he KNEW I could get the truck for, and showed me what to ""offer him" to get the deal done. Sales manager was a COMPLETE ASS and wouldnt budge. No fucking word of a lie, he wouldnt take less then $375 off the price. I had papers there showing they payed over $3000 less then the sticker for the truck, and then added in a bunch of extra crap I didnt want. He came out, lied to me 3 times in less then 30 seconds
(first said the monthly price I wanted would have them losing $3900, but yet $1500 was my downpayment, leaving them losing $2400, but THEN after we did it on the computer infront of me it was really only $3100 - my $1500 dp, leaving them $1600 off the sticker price)
So he was pissed off that I proved him wrong, said he wouldnt take less then $375 off, and then said "Thanks for coming out".
Im usually a quiet guy but lose my temper, but I just said
"I wouldnt buy this from you if you gave it to me for $10 now. Fuck you, you pissed off the wrong guy" and then left.
Salesman kept apologizing to me lol, and on the way out he said right loud to me
"if we had any other sales manager you would be getting that truck right now. Too bad he seems to have something up his ass today".
Anyways, pretty depressed about it, I was so excited to get one. Im going to check out the other dealers around but they want extra money to just get them in because they arnt in stock, and I just dont have any more to spend.......fuck me
    Anyone else have this problem?

Ouch, nice of the salesman to work it all out for you. My dealings with car dealers is a love/hate thing. Love the feeling of a new ride, yet hate having to argue price. Its not my thing. I was actually on my way out of the dealership when I got mine, just wasn't happy with it. The manager stopped me, said what can we do for you to take that home tonight. I said make the price 100 dollars over invoice, and some more for my trade in, and we have a deal. I normally go with 100 dollars over invoice, because they get hidden incentives from selling it, so they are not really only making 100 dollars off of me. Thats usually as low as I can get them to go.

Good luck when you go somewhere else. That really sucks. Might end up better somewhere else anyway. Meant to be.

    Say it ain't so...:rain:

My strategy would be to get something great from another dealership and go back to those clowns and gloat a little.

And let them know that Toyota Customer care would be informed of their total lack of professionalism...

Is there not a different dealer around? The fight is just part of the game! Car salesmen are all full of BS. Can't take it to heart.

I personally think that being a jackass is part of the job qualifications.

Agreed! Think of it this way, you've got nothing to lose. If they don't want your money, fine, take it elsewhere. Make that salesman work for it! Take your time. Annoy them. I get a kick out of messing with those guys. Haha, I'm getting a kick out of just talking about it!!

Dealers play the "good cop / bad cop" game all the time. Your salesman is your "friend" and the sales manager is the bad guy. I classify EVERYONE at the dealership as someone that wants to give you the least amount of product for the most amount of money. Bottom line is they are ALL trying to get the most for less and so you should do the same.

The best success you have is where you force a dealer to bid against another dealer. I don't care if it makes them mad.

YEah me too. All the power is with the buyer. All the expertise in selling is with the seller. They sell for a living. Many unsuspecting people buy cars maybe once in three years and are rolled badly. Which is why dealers won't go to the fixed pricing method which works very well for Carmax. New car dealers hit home runs all day on uninformed customers who pay $1600 MORE for those extended Service contracts that are not even relevant for THREE YEARS......and like will never payoff.

First rule Do NOT fall in love with ANY vehicle...Always find a reason you DON'T like it You may need to dig that up later when things go bad.

To the OP..BUY USED. There is a far larger mark up and they will roll a vehicle for a $2000 profit which is easy on a truck marked up $6000 over ACV they gave on a trade or at auction. There is little reason to buy a vehicle that is well known to last 200K and still return a good price new.

You can drive a used Tacoma for 4 years an lose maybe $2000 if you buy it right and keep it stock or (return it to stock) and maintain it. . You will lose 3X that on paper rolling out of the lot with a new one. Or look for a heavily modded USED on. They don;t retain their value as ,much as stock one because 50% of the market is eliminated buy someone else idea of a nice truck and then there is the fear it having been trashed off road.

Most of what you see in dealer lots are stock trucks with light mods. The heavily modded ones are found on "leak lots" more than not and private sales.

Frankly I don;t understand why anyone would trade in a Tacoma since the street prices and trade in prices have such a huge gap.

YEP they ALL have ONE goal.... Seek as much out your pocket as possible and they are EXPERTS. Also be aware. Many dealers own their "competition" and those prices you are getting are all from the same source. Sometimes you have to go 100 miles an get quotes. They will not mind giving you a lower quote as they know you won't be back there for every little rattle or OCD issue.

They are not bad trucks.....a lot less expensive and they will do the job. Every brand has their forum of followers. you will find an accepting home with a Ford and have confidence in that truck as well.

F150s still rule the world in truck sales..

In 2009 the top 5 best selling trucks and SUVs were

    1. Ford F150
    2. Chevy Silverado
    3. Ford Escape
    5. Honda CRV
    6. RAV 4
    7. Tacoma.

So if you are going to get a Ford you know which one to get.

BTW best selling vehicles in 2010
Here is the full list of the ten best-selling vehicles of 2010:
    1. Ford F-Series
    2. Chevy Silverado
    3. Toyota Camry
    4. Honda Accord
    5. Toyota Corolla
    6. Honda Civic
    7. Nissan Altima
    8. Ford Fusion
    9. Honda CR-V
    10. Dodge Ram

Only three trucks all full size all domestic brands. It appears more people who want a truck( and that apparently is more than who want a car) buy full size trucks. not a Toyota truck on the list. I was surprised not see a Tacoma in there somewhere.

so really don;t get hung up with Toyota. There are other great choices and many people outside a small group in a specialized forum agree.

Must be a new sales tactic. I had the EXACT same thing happen at a local dealer, up until the sales manager part. The salesman kept telling me that he couldn't find the sales manager he liked dealing with as they had 2 on duty and the other wouldn't go for it. He told me to come back the next day which I never did. I was confused by this tactic as I had never had a salesman do this before. He told me to play bad customer and he would play good salesman to get the deal done. I found my truck at another dealer equiped exactly how I wanted it, so I went after it. Trick was though, I got a written offer from them and showed it to the other dealer and said I would buy if they matched it plus the difference of the JBL option, and they did it. Just had trouble getting them to match my trade offer, but after starting to walk, they came through.

I am glad I am not like the OP. I went to a dealer and they didn't budge a dime - wanted the sticker and only the sticker. I went home... made calls the next day and bought my truck for $4k off the sticker.
