4th Gen Tacoma (2024+)

My first Toyota pickup...parked it practically anywhere.

 

While the T24A-FTS has been out since 2021 (in Lexus NX350), in 2022 Toyota launched the S20A-FTS which is also a "Dynamic Force engine with TNGA". It's a 2.0T with 244HP and 280Tq, slightly less hp and slightly more tq than the outgoing 3.5. That engine probably would have had a more significant MPG increase and would have paired nicely with a larger electric motor for a PHEV configuration.

 

I get that people are having issues, but it’s kind of like going to Yelp for a positive review. It ain’t happening.

I was in several GMC/Chevy groups for my AT4 and the amount of posts regarding 6.2L problems would make you think the entire line should be recalled. The more units produced directly leads to a higher probability of more reported issues.

The trans programming is blow way out of proportion too, it is more of a cruise control issue than the trans. It is trying to get the best mpgs why it fluctuates, turn off the cruise it doesn’t do that.

Yeah was really hoping for better efficiency, but that didn’t happen. The upcharge for more power and added complexity turns me off, at that point might as well buy a different truck.

That and I am quite content with my 3rd Gen. Use the hell out of those clam shell doors. Multiple times a day running around. The more I watch reviews of the XtraCab the more I turn my nose up at the 4G Taco. Toyota killed my favorite cab configuration.

To get what I want, gonna have to bump up to a Tundra, and probably get it cheaper. Dunno, looks like this owner didn’t have problem parallel parking…. Nice thing about bigger trucks, you can park them anywhere you want.

 

For the price is actually a better value to get the TRD Tundra.

For me though it's a bit too big. but for 51k a TRD offroad sr5 double cab is the best route.

I was really hoping the price was not going to change that much but 43k for a plain offroad (base) no options is insane once you add the few options that dealers in south east toyota like to add, markup , taxes and all other stuff you are in 50k easy!

I used to drive a Mack R Series, those you can park them anywhere you want…

…it was nice jumping into the 4Runner after driving that thing all day.

 

That 2.0 is the biggest snoozefest of an engine, I am beyond glad the Tacoma didn't get it.

I tested a Lexus IS200T with that and it was a joke compared to everything else in its segment, it was a complete slug.
The 3.5 in the IS350 is also slow for its segment, but it is in my opinion the absolute best application of the 3.5 in a Toyota/Lexus product. It pairs so well with the 8 speed auto in that car, I would buy one if they weren't so expensive and chewed through tires like they do.

 

That is what I am thinking.Since no AC anymore. Have to get a DCLB in the SR5 trim, so comparing that to a Tundra DC SR, either the 6.5 or 8’ bed.

That was the 8AR-FTS, not the new TNGA engine.

 

You're right I goofed, it had less torque than this other engine.
I'm still glad the 4th gen gets the 2.4 though

You're either paying 11K more for the same grade/options or 5.5K more for a lesser grade. I would say that's outside the range of most people who are cross-shopping vehicles. Not that it's weird, I'm looking at the Tacoma PRO, Tundra Pro, Rivian, CyberTruck (not seriously), and the Hummer EV I parked next to yesterday looked really good.

 

I would like a Tundra but will not buy one until the engine issue is disclosed by Toyota. I don’t want to drive a ticking time bomb that it going to fail at the worst moment possible.

 

Same here. I use my bed daily. And it's 6'. It's the main reason I don't have a topper...I live the convenience of being able to reach over the side and hop in and out.

Guess that's why we see so many roof racks.. the 5' bed must get cramped pretty fast and folks need storage space elsewhere.

I could see myself not need a 6' bed in a few years... another reason I'll patiently wait on making any moves on a 4g... At that point a 5' bed might be better... For now it's not ..

 

I hear ya... however Toyota has been pretty good about owning up to and rectifying issues .... Look at the first gen frame replacement debacle .... It wasn't pretty, but they did try and make good on it.

 

Did it have a parking ticket on the windshield for parking in the red zone?

 

Was looking at the Tacoma SR5 DCLB $40,900 vs the Tundra SR DC6.5’ it came in at $44,850 on the website builder. It has 405 ft/lbs TQ, 1800 lbs payload, 8000 lbs towing (we are looking at travel trailers, depending what size she wants determines what truck we get)

My guess in one year with all the Tacoma hype that Tundras will have a somewhat decent price cut, and Tacomas will have “adjusted market rate” slapped on them.

Not much into halo vehicles, just don’t think they are worth it, as I don’t even use all the options on my current poverty model SR. Always look at what capabilities the truck has over frivolous options. Most of the time I don’t even turn the radio on.

 

4 more inches of wheelbase, minus 1 inch front legroom, offset by just 1 more inch rear legroom. Obviously same bed lengths, same overall length. But you get a much wider turning radius, no interior storage in a 55-60k hybrid version.

After the initial excitement, the steep pricing forces you to ponder the sum of its parts. And that’s independent of future reliability vs V6, or where resale goes after a couple owners thrash on the turbo.

Lots of questions that I’m looking forward to other people answering with their money. Excited!
