Has anyone installed their own TRD Supercharger???

If so can you give me any insight or heads up on what to look for or what special tools I may need. If you had any complications during install I would like to know. Me and another member on here are deciding to go for it...for one reason I already have 140,000 mi on truck since I have no warranty and just retain the 1yr 12,000 parts warranty on supercharger. So any help from members on her will be greatly appreciated...Thanks fellow TW'ers

 

I installed mine myself along with 3 others on my friends trucks. You can do it with basic hand tools. Hardest part is doing the crank pulley on the automatic trucks. You need a torque wrench and a way to hold the pulley from turning while torquing it back on. I used an impact to take the stock bolt off. I've heard of people just using the impact to put it back on without using a torque wrench, but I'd feel more comfortable getting it to the right tightness.

 

I have an impact tool...what else did you use to hold it? After the install would it be bad to drive without the reflash..say the dealership couldnt get me in for a couple days...you think I would harm anything? Thanks man

 

I used a strap wrench, but it was a pain to hold. The new pulley that gets put on has two holes that is designed to accept a pulley holder tool. You can drive it, but it will run super rich. I drove mine, but I wouldn't get on it hard until the reflash is done.

Awesome man thank you....how long did it take for the install? If the pulley may be the hardest thing i think it will go well. Didnt have a problem installing my Walbro fuel pump so im somewhat mechanically inclined with instructions any more advice would be great from anyone

 

The install on my truck took 7hrs or so, but that was done with very little help. The last one I did was just under 5hrs.

 

My friends and I also installed mine too. Took around 8 hours like rossk35. I also had to deal with that crank pulley since I'm an auto. An impact wrench worked. WHen installing those new 425 injectors, take it easy with the o-rings. Last thing you want to have is a fuel leak. Good luck.

 

Thanks guys...looks like crank pulley is what can give you problems or be time consuming. Just dontwant to run into something i cant do...never done this before....

 

Reading through the install PDF, it doesn't look too intensive at all, drain coolant, remove some tensioners and belts, remove the plastic intake and fuel rails, replace injectors, install S/C and then re-route some vacuum lines and stuff and mount pump and reservoir. Doesn't look really hard at all, just time consuming. Haha I'm convinced anything has to be easier to work on than my VR4 anyways...
