I have a 1st Gen Tacoma extra cab still (tossed on the snow tires on it yesterday for my wife) getting to storage area sucks! It’s like they went back to 90s with XtraCab. Lived with that for the past 20+ years and continue do so helping my wife load boxes of books in and out of it. Would love to see Sheldon struggle with it, I mean he had trouble just showing the cubbies let alone actually using it.

That fold down passenger seat is nothing new, Toyota that in various models over the years. So if my wife is sitting in there, she now has to get out so I can fold it down to toss stuff back there. All the while the access cab is far superior design. They took a great utility feature and made it less useful.

Thanks. To nit-pick that data just a little:

It's not really a feature-for-feature (apples to apples comparison). There are new or improved features in the 2024 that would need to be adjusted for.

The headline CPI-U number is a combination of a basket of about 300 different goods and services, of which new car price inflation is just a small component. It may, by coincidence, be that new car prices matched the aggregate inflation rate, but more likely it is either higher or lower. I think the St Louis Federal Reserve website has historic data for different CPI components alone, and I think they have the history of the price inflation for new car prices. But that's ALL new car prices in aggregate so it's still not the ideal comparison (but it's better than using the all-items CPI numbers).

Edit to add: here's the CPI isolated for new vehicle prices:

It’s out of control. I got two subs and two chips at Jersey Mikes a few days ago and it was $36. WTF!
For some reason Europe hasn’t seen this crazy inflation. I was in Spain a couple months ago and you could get a nice dinner for two with apps and two drinks a person for $50 US. That’s around $100 here in MA. $1.25 for a coffee, 3$ for a beer. Like it used to be here.

Lots of dislike for the new pricing. I understand it having not purchased a vehicle in 10 years.

They have always been expensive to be honest. If I was in the same financial position now as I was in 2012 I wouldn’t even consider it. $52,000 for a car is insane. But this is rhe way of the world now. It’s not going to be cheaper 3 years from now. It’s going to be even higher. Thankfully I am fortunate to be able to afford a nicer vehicle this time.

Yep time will tell. I am no hurry to buy, since bought a new one two years ago. And quite content with it, drove the ‘99 for over 20 years, I am very patient when comes to buying vehicles.

We are considering going full time living on the road here in a couple years, don’t think the Tacoma is going to cut it, unless we get two of them… lol! His and her campers.

We should look at the 3G forum when pricing came out and all the 2G'ers were having mild coronaries about a $33,000 TRD truck.

I paid 7999.99 for a Nissan extended cab in 1996. When they bumped past 10k in the next gen I freaked out. Lol

Looks like 2024 Tacoma's will be starting out at $50K+ here in Canada. Just ordered a 2024 Ridgeline Sport for same price. Toyota dealers here also tack on a bunch BS fees over and above this to line their pockets. Honda doesn't! Been a Toyota fan all my life but enough is enough!!

A Ridgeline isn't even on the same level for what I would want ....not even close . Hope you enjoy though

Be honest. Are you really doing anything in your truck that you couldn’t do in a Ridgeline?

It looks like some pricing finally came out for the Cyber Truck now that some were delivered today. Check out the asterisk.
