Just picked up a used 2018 TRD Off-road. I noticed the brake light doesnt come on when the brake is engaged (it is engaging though).

Guessing it may be a bad switch? I've looked through the forum but havent found anyone with a similar issues. Anyone else encounter this? TIA

If you have confirmed that the parking brake is on,
I would agree, The switch would be the first thing to look at

Your post in confusing. Are you saying your red brakes lights at the back of the truck are not lighting up when you apply the brake pedal with your foot or are you saying the parking brake indicator on the dash does not light up when you apply the parking brake with your hand?

You're talking about the red light on the instrument cluster right? If so, yes, the switch is the first place you should look. That is the only way the Taco knows the brake is engaged... you pull the parking brake and at a certain point the contact closes on the switch and the light illuminates on the dash cluster. I haven't heard about an instrument cluster light (LED?) going out but I guess it is possible.

    Things I would check:
    1. Is the parking brake making contact with the switch (is it aligned)?
    2. Can you see the switch closing? Can you see the open move to a closed electrically with your multimeter?
    3. Are the connectors bent/crimped/cut/etc?
I highly doubt the wiring between the switch and the dash light is the issue but if you have been modding and up in the dash then maybe that is a possibility. My $.02. keep us posted.

Sorry; did proofread before sending…yes, the parking brake engages but I don’t get the light in the instrument cluster.

Try driving with the parking brake engaged a bit. A properly working switch will eventually send a warning message that the parking brake is engaged.

This was about as easy as it gets. It was unplugged; now I’m curious why?

    ...stuff
Glad it was easy, maybe previous owner had some parking brake bypass circuit for an aftermarket head unit and swapped it back to stock when they traded it in, and forgot to plug it back in. Just a random thought. Or they were doing something in the tunnel and it came unplugged
