Im running a 1986 ford 2210 40 hp.I bought it used for $7.5k with 2200 hours 2 years ago. Its over 3000 now. I use it mostly for forestry, snow removal, and the occasional gardening task. I would encourage you to think long and hard about your intended usage. A lot of the smaller compact tractors discussed here will be pushed to their limits by many routine tasks and implements. I think there is a place in price point where one has to choose whether they want to be able to do a lot of everything but not be great at anything, or figure out what you really want to be great at and focus your spending there. My tractor is too heavy for lawn work, so I have a lawn mower.

I haven't even been to or talked to a Kubota dealer, but I did a lot of searching around about the Kioti's last couple weeks. Yesterday, I got this flyer in the mail...

    yeah man it sure would....

only problem was if you didnt get enough snow? it would throw rocks & anything else on the then gravel driveway. lmao.

this was a great little tractor. got more pix of it cause it was my first tractor purchase "for me".
best thing was that front hydro on the cradle, cause when you took the blower off you could just use a blade, which was actually better for the set up we had at the time.

120 yards of concrete later............. all that gravel is gone. so is the 7200.

Changed the engine oil and filter, both hydraulic filters, and fuel filter. Figured I may as well change the power steering filter. It’s inside the reservoir.

Not sure if others are like that or not, I know a lot of the old Fords are. This one is a 1993.

Anyone here made the switch from tractor to skidsteer? For context I bought a Kubota B7610 from my FIL for 7500 last year. First time tractor owner and I’ve enjoyed having it but found some limitations. Front end loader doesn’t do the lifting I hoped it would. Doing lots of dirt work and stone work has been tricky. Snow plow I have for the front is very heavy for the size of the machine making plowing a bit difficult. Plus open cab means I’m cold and in the elements. Rear PTO is a bit underpowered for a few attachments as well. I was liking the idea of an enclosed cab Skidsteer but never owned or operated one for any significant length of time. Enclosed cab would keep me warmer and out of the weather. Much more power to use for rocks and dirt work. Snowpusher for driveway maintenance. Eventually would do brush hog for some land clearing as well. General thoughts on the switch? Or people who have both, are you using both often? Purely homeowner use managing 14 acres, mostly wooded with 2 acres of lawn.

    stick with the tractor.

ive had both & still have tractors & excavators... NO SKIDSTEER.

if your Kbob wont pick up enough? you just need a bigger tractor.

skidsteers are great for cleaning out barns, moving gravel/sand/dirt. but they are also VERY tippy & as a guy who has been upside down on more than 1 occasion.... its very easy to do.

there is really nothing you cant do with your tractor as long as you stay in its limitations.

that 7610 is a very sought after tractor as a mower & driveway cleaner. its a little underpowered for garden plowing or big bushhogging.... but they are a great long lived machine.

if you think its too heavy for snow bladework? get a lighter blade or use a counter weight.

heres some honest input from a guy with a hobby farm of 15 acres:

my 7200's were too small for the loads i do.... moved up to a B2601. that can run a 5' hog, tiller, plow & lift close to 1klbs on the front.
that wasnt enough for some of my other implements! so had to go on UP to a bigger tractor.
now that ive got a big enough tractor for everything? ITS TOO BIG TO MOW GRASS.

do i miss the skid steer? NO. we dont have horses or stalls to clean & once you learn your machine a tractor can move just as much dirt.
the mini excavator is MUCH more handy than the skid steer ever was.

the only reason i would have another skid steer is if it had a forestry mulcher on it & i was gonna wreck shop with that. :burnrubber:

I had a skid loader for a while, the track type that is, and if what you are doing is primary loader work, I would say they beat any tractor loader hands down. The wheel type are way more tipsey than the track ones and I have never liked them. But for homeowner use a tractor is way more cost effective, but a skid steer is ideal for bush hogging as you can see what your doing without craning your neck around
