That wouldn't be the end of the world, watched a review about the manual and the gear ratio's are good, and it looked to me like it was a bit better navigating the off road course. The turning radius comments I have seen a few times are a bit concerning. These you tubers never say anything too negative but if you read between the lines and hear the same thing a few times, you can usually deduce that what they wanna say is..it sucks...lol

Watched Doug DeMuro's review of the 6 speed, he predicts 9 buyers of the MT! Clearly exaggerating but claims us MT guys are enthusiast overkillers.

Doug knows and is correct the take rate will be low, but Doug also drives the most exciting cars in the world for a living and owns a Carrera GT.
I doubt he sees the Tacoma as anything special since it is a very normal truck.

I have a feeling the take rate will actually increase over the 3rd Gen.

I disagree, I think the lack of high power options and new 8 speed will only grow the AT army. I also think Toyota will purposely make it hard to get an MT so they can eventually get rid of it.

I do want to test drive an MT before(if) I buy one though.

I will say the lack of MT options from most other manufacturers could boost the MT take rate though.

I agree that it appears Toyota is making the push to get rid of the MT. From a manufacturing POV it makes sense to just run 1 transmission but I think there are those customers who want the MT and choose Toyota as use that as one of their main buying reasons. The hybrid power will sway people for sure but the price point will be drastically different. I feel a loaded up MT TRD OR in the low $51-52k price vs a TRD OR Hybrid at maybe $54-57k will motivate those to go to the Hybrid for the torques!

Toyota has been making it hard to get the manual for awhile now. Never offered in the DCLB, stopped in the base models in 2016. Which is odd, could have dropped the price a bit more for the frugal, and the 4 cylinder really could have used a manual.

The current offerings doesn’t surprise me. Shocked that is still around at all.

Toyota is funny, all proud and shit about keeping the manual, but have to buy a bunch of extra useless nonsense to get it.

One of the videos out there, I think it was TFL took the manual and the Auto TRD off-road on the same "off road" course and deduced that the manual transmission was better in those conditions (better control, no drama) Not that people look at anything but HP and Torque, but if your use warrants it, it is something to think about. The MT gear ratio's seem to be very usable in this one and they seem to have fixed the horrible ratio in reverse.

It will be interesting to see if they put this manual transmission in the next gen 4 runner.

Of all the current videos I've seen, the manual configured trucks seemed to be quite noisy with engine noise in the cab. Love the manual but not the extra noise from the engine. Apparently Toyota's noise cancelling technology is not available in the manual and it was noticeable to me. Even through the videos.

For poor folks such as me the SR trim is where it's at. At least someone did a review of the low model .... Everything I see is focused on upper level trims.

After watching this video, I'm not a fan of the fact that the access doors went away. I'll be keeping my 3rd gen for a good long while.

I really want to like this trim, but the lack of doors and low tow rating kill it for me. I hate that coils aren't available as well.

I don't think my 17 OR is going anywhere anytime soon either.

Yeah... It would force me into a 4 door.....which drives up the cost and realistically I'll only need 4 doors for another 2-3 years ..

I really am trying to find a reason to trade up , but I just can't. Good thing I actually like my 3rd gen.

I have 4 doors now and could see going to an Access cab, but going to no doors is a bridge too far for me. I really wanted to go to an AC since I use my truck for work, but I don't find the rear area of the XC to be any good. They make a big deal about the storage, but you can't have anything back there and use the rear fold down storage at all.

Agreed... After watching the video it really is a step back... The reviewer was even having a difficult time getting the camera angle and couldn't show the storage lockers because it looks clunky to get back there. Gonna be a real PITA to get stuff in and out of that extra storage area without those suicide doors.

Seems like a pretty big miss to eliminate such a convenience. Guess the main idea is to force everyone into 4 doors and phase out the AC/XC.

Keep in mind that Toyota sells more manual-transmission Tacomas than they sell Sequoias.
Lots of room to cover development costs.

Very true, they possibly sourced the new manual from the Hilux which would also help keep costs down.
