I have a 2010 4 cylinder Tacoma. I have no tow package just a standard bumper. I want to use my truck to pull out cactus and brush from my land. Where do I attach a strap or chain to the rear? Any help is appreciated

Receiver Hitch would make things easiest but I believe this spot I have circled, you should be able to fit a tow strap around. That is the same spot where you would put a bumper mounted ball for towing so it should be plenty strong.IMG_6088.jpg

IME using a pickup to pull up brush has never worked. Even larger 1/2 tons just spin the tires.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to put on a tow hitch. $137 on Amazon for the Curt; bolt on. Put it on your xmas/birthday wish list, if you celebrate that sort of thing. Otherwise, for light work, I would wrap a strap around the axle - recovery vehicles pull from the axle as needed. I would invest in the hitch.

I'd much prefer ripping my bumper off than ripping my axle off.

^Since the propulsive force is coming from the rear axle, you can't tear the axle from the truck if you put a tow strap around it. However, the strap is liable to damage brake lines or ABS wiring running along the axle tube.
Pop out the middle round plastic cap in the bumper step area. You should see the steel carry-through structure inside the bumper shell. Put a soft shackle through that (or even a steel bow shackle if it fits). The structure is good for 3500 lbs, not a lot.

Dig around the root system well.

Wrap a come-a-long around the base of the plant, then around the ball hitch.

Use the come along to pull the plant, truck just serves as an anchor.

Kind of like a reverse recovery process.

Could also add an old tire to the mix and get some upward lift. The old "fence post tire puller" method

If you take a run at a static strap, the momentum of the vehicle can ABSOLUTELY overcome the strength of the mounting points of your axles/suspension. Leaving the truck moving forward, and the axle staying with the strap and whatever it was connected to.

You'd have to be going unreasonably fast (like 40 mph) for that to happen.
