We are down to the back up key on our 2008 Tacoma after one was lost.

The truck is a base model with roll up windows and manual locks. No FOB. The last time I needed a key you could go to the hardware store and have one cut, but those days seem to be long gone.

Who replaces these? The dealer? And does anyone know the cost? Thanks

I need to get a few

I had a second key made at our local locksmith. Hardware store claimed it could do it too, but then didn’t have the right blank in stock and referred me to the locksmith. So you can still get it done the old fashioned way.

A local locksmith is who I use. They charge $65 to make and program MOST chipped keys and about $3 for anything else. There are some keys that they can't do and you have to see the dealer. I used to have a Honda that would have cost me over $400 at the dealer. I have 3-4 keys for everything Just in case. But never got a 3rd one for that Honda due to the cost. You shouldn't have any problems with a 2008. They made a 3rd key for my 2007.

I have a base model ‘08. Mine is just a regular key. No chip. Had a spare made at Home Depot.

I’ve got an 08 base model. I had an extra key made at Ace hardware. They used a gizmo that plugged into the OBD port to program it.
