Hey, I resent the kombucha comment...beats the pants off a soda! But yes, the tech bros are lining up at their local silicon valley Tesla dealership right now. Assuming maybe 100K in immediate sales to Muskites over the first couple years, do you think the Cybertruck will be a sales flop? if it flops, I see a scenario where it might damage the entire company. I think its much less likely that stainless steel electric trucks are the way of the future.

Yeah I'll have whatever your smoking....

Bro actually just tried to claim a Tundra gets 18,000 Ft/lbs of torque at the wheels.

Probably not, don’t buy vehicles to save money though. I buy them to use and don’t care about resale or trade in value. One the main reasons I am in a Toyota and not a Ford, because at the time Ford was 6-8 months out and Toyota got it to me in 5 weeks. I put deposits down on both a Ranger and Tacoma, told the salesmen whoever gets it to me first gets the sale. So I lost the $500 deposit on the Ford… big deal.

Either vehicle would do what I need it to do, though the Ford would have towed better.

Tow with my Tacoma one to two times a week, kept within its capabilities it does more than fine. Weren’t you the one saying people should buy a F150 because of higher capacities since they cost the same? Why buy a Tacoma hybrid if you can get a F250 probably cheaper.

That is great and all for Tesla, I don’t like cars…absolutely useless to me. The Tacoma is barely enough at times, have to augment it with a trailer.

Toyoda is just sitting back and watching the shitshow. They have a long history of taking their time, why would EVs be any different?

Teslas rushed to market, and they look like they have been thrown together, have poor quality control. Have you been in one? They are awful, definitely don’t scream luxury. We have a bunch of clients with them, they are all proud of them…and I am like “ok???” I don’t get it.

Didn't the 4th gen towing capacity drop by 500lbs? I thought I read that somewhere in all the hodge podge Toyota is calling a vehicle release.

I completely agree, why would anyone buy a 4G Tacoma hybrid at these prices with this level of performance. I owned a used Model S for a couple years and i never had a problem. It certainly was a minimalistic interior and the fit and finish wasn't on par with a Ferrari or something, but the fit and finish was just as solid as my Tacoma's. It also was insanely fast and fun to drive all while getting 90+ MPGe, nothing about it was "awful" to me. I'm just waiting for a ~$45k BEV truck that gets 500HP+ and 60+ MPGe, I think the lightning's are around ~52k now.

Add ~$1500 to the Tacoma for the destination charge for a total of $44,400. Since the packages are different between the trucks its hard to do a direct comparison However, if you spec the Pro-4X with the tech and convenience package it comes out to $43,975 (including shipping) and is better equipped than the base TRD-OR. Pro-4X MPG is rated 20/22. I think you would save ~2K on sticker and maybe ~1-2K on dealer discounts on the Frontier versus the new Tacoma.

I’ve never seen so many inflation tables since this past week. And that my friends, is the moment you know that something is way too expensive. Albeit those charts do seem to illustrate what a smoking deal the last of the Gen3’s are right now.

Most Tacoma owners are now comparing Gen4 increases to the current year rate of inflation, and it’s not flattering.

Doesn’t help that when you buy a comparable basic ‘24 TRD OR compared to the ‘23 OR you pay more but delete:
    Bed Outlet
    Power seats
    Sliding rear window
    Dual climate
    Side markers
Rear folding seat back replaced hard plastic for carpet
Two cylinders/1100cc (sorry couldn’t help it..)

And that’s just the stuff we can see.

Capacity exceeds 300k and the platform will be underneath every BOF Toyota sells in the world, so where is our break from economies of scale & platform sharing?

The hybrid did, why I think what is the point of it??? Other than for the “look at me” bro crowd. All that torque and towing capacity goes down. And yes I have crossed shopped with a F250/350, people daily those here in Idaho. :) looked from Subarus to Super Duty’s, the Tacoma was the “just right Goldilocks” compromise vehicle for now.

Lol! Yeah soda is gross. Have my morning coffee, then water the rest of the day. Tried the kombucha to see what all the fuss is about, not for me.

I am guessing it is going to be a flop, too weird. As much as I love Syd Mead’s illustrations, Musk’s nod to the man is not doing it for me. Putting a camper or even a topper on that is going to be a challenge. There was another stainless wedge design vehicle that comes to mind, and was a total flop, and not even a famous movie can bring it back. However in the same movie the Toyota still remains wildly popular.

    Touché! Lol!

I am sure the new one will be just fine. Questionable styling aside, Toyota addressed all the little nagging problems. Looks like they really listened to customers’ complaints, it is going to be great evolution of the platform and will sell like hotcakes.

I priced a 2023 Pro-4X, didn't see the '24 the first time. 2024 Pro-4X is $42,290 (w/o the convenience pkg which is as close to a base TRD OR you can get, Pro-4X Convenience pkg vs TRD Upgrade isn't apple to apple). Difference is $2,110. Not seeing any advertised discounts on the '24 Frontiers but even if you save $2K plus the $2K sticker, you'll get $4K less when you sell or trade. Pretty much the same difference in price every year with the Tacoma. The Nissan is not on my cross shop list.

    MPG is 18/22 vs 19/23.

I kinda forgot about the frontier and looking over it again...what do ya know...the numbers are pretty much the same. Little more torque in Tacoma but more HP in the Nissan. Lot less money...maybe less reliability, maybe not since the 4th gen is starting with a clean unproven slate as of now.

Teslas are certainly quick, I will give them that. Was in a Rivian last week or so, their interiors blows Teslas out of the water. Minimal but extremely well done. Much prefer that over the Tacoma 4Gs, as it is a bit too busy for me.

Not much of a car person, so that is a factor in my opinion. Client is all excited about their Tesla…and I go “yep it is car….” If I were into luxury cars, much rather be in a Mercedes or BMW, the interior feels much better.

Yeah a $45K BEV truck with 500-600 mile range and the power numbers you listed would sell like hot cakes. That new Ramcharger is interesting, has a towing capacity of 14K. It won’t be cheap though, and feels like a stop gap vehicle. Believe in 5 years the EV truck landscape will be quite different from the current offerings.

Good video for explaining the funny torque numbers. In short GM started this, Elon followed and now you will probably have two numbers getting tossed around.

Thats a great analogy LOL. Musk is perhaps too stubborn and proud to pull the plug on a bad idea. Time, and possibly karma, will tell.

Yeah the 4G power band would be great for towing, I believe the diff gearing is going to further suit towing. Although the smaller fuel tank is not great, I was hoping for more.

This is my rig, 5,000lb with everything loaded for 6 month excursion. IMG_8968.jpg
    https://coachmenrv.com/apex-nano/213RDS/9354

This was another one we were looking at with a dry weight also under 4k. The Nice thing with both these units are… walk around bed, double axle which equals better stability/braking and they are only 7.5ft wide.
    IMG_8969.jpg
    https://www.gulfstreamcoach.com/products/light-weight/vista-cruiser/model/23RSS

With us fully loaded with fuel and everything the only limit I’m over is payload and that’s only by 60lb.

I bet most overlanders are considerably over on payload and axle limits.

Mid size trucks are not meant to be towing juggernauts lol . Only people on here buy midsize trucks because they want to tow things . Buy a fullsize if your primary goal is to tow .
