My grandmother flew into Philly from Portland, Maine two days before Thanksgiving. My mom thought nothing of it at the time, but believes that my grandma was displaying COVID symptoms within a day or two of arriving. Basically, we are thinking my grandma caught COVID on the flight and gave it to me; I started experiencing symptoms possibly late on Saturday but definitely on Sunday. My symptoms calmed down a bit on Monday morning, but they got worse in the afternoon and I was running a fever by the evening; I tested positive on Monday night, and haven't had a fever then. I tested positive again on Wednesday, but COVID is having minimal impact on my health.

Sounds like Grandma is getting a lump of coal for Christmas.
And in the mail, because she's officially "uninvited" for Christmas.

Very tough call re elderly drivers. My grandfather drove until 93..very well at that. He just decided not to one day, I'm sure losing my grandmother had a lot to do with it.

That said it's hearing horror stories about elderly drivers injuring or killing people due to reduced reflexes/etc that scares me to think this is a good idea.

It really wasn't her fault. She also bought my girlfriend a bunch of really nice stuff while she was here...

    I was just kidding bud.

If your grandmother is like mine. She'll do what ever she wants.
And not much bothers her.

"Grammy", the grandmother who I believe gave me COVID, is 85 and still has a valid driver's license. This is my dad's mom, and while she is still capable of driving, she hasn't been behind the wheel since 2019 and is afraid to drive.

My maternal grandma held a valid driver's license until the day she died, but my mom and her sisters finally talked her into selling her car and giving up driving about two years before she died. She was 86 when she stopped driving and 88 when she died.

A divorce in the 1960s left me with two sets of grandparents on my dad's side; I already told you about Grammy. My step-grandma, who I call "Nana J" is 78 and still drives. My biological grandpa drove until probably the last month or two of his life. He had lung cancer and was even driving himself to chemo early on. They stopped treatment in September 2007 not long after his 71st birthday, because it spread to his liver. By October, he was bedridden and too weak to drive, and he died in November.

My step-Grandpa, Grammy's husband who I called Mr. P, had to give up his license in 2010 at the age of 86 because his doctor ratted him out for not being able to feel his feet or something. He was driving right up until the day PennDOT made him turn in his license.

I know you were kidding; I telling Grammy that I would let her drive my truck around the block to see how comfortable she was with driving. After spending a week with her, I'm not so sure I'd be comfortable letting her drive even under my supervision. She has a valid license, and nobody has said she can't drive, but I feel like she might have a nervous breakdown behind the wheel. Also, she initially assumed that my truck was a stick shift when I made the offer to let her drive it. @Stitchgirl90's biological mother, who is almost 60 and has never had a license but wants to get one now, automatically assumed that my truck was a stick shift when I offered to teach her how to drive...

My Grandfather was 83 when he stopped driving.
His wife is 85 and she still drives. She's never had a ticket.
She still drives great, but she gets nervous in traffic and at night now.

I don't particularly like letting other people drive my vehicles.
There are just a handful of people I'd loan it to and not worry about it.
Not saying I "wouldn't" let others, but I'd be a bit nervous while they had it.
A lot of people just don't seem to pay attention.
Get in and go. If it makes it there and back, they don't care about anything else.

@Stitchgirl90 has earned my trust with the truck. My best friend John is 37 and got his license when he was 17, so he's been driving for 20 years. He had one incredibly minor at-fault accident where he rear-ended somebody and has never been pulled over; I would trust him to borrow the truck if he ever needed to move a couch or something.

I actually gave my other best friend Mike a few driving lessons in my truck when he finally decided to get his license. Amanda, John, Mike, and my friend Dave are the only friends I would actually trust to drive the truck solo and borrow it. I will happily haul stuff for other friends though...

It's not that I won't let other people borrow mine.
I just don't want to. But that's not how life works.
Sometimes we do things we don't want to......

The 2 people I'd let borrow mine with out hesitation or worry are; my brother and my father.
My brother would find something wrong and fix it.....
And my dad would fix it if he broke it. Plus, he's a truck driver. He's been one for 20+ years. I think he can drive.

Shawn asked me to test drive his car after he got new tires last week, soon as I pulled out of the driveway it was roaring loudly and the steering wheel was vibrating, it actually scared me to drive. Got back and jacked it up, the Walmart Tech had loosened the bolts on his strut for some bizarre reason which was the cause of the shaking steering, and the roaring was obviously a very bad wheel bearing. Rather than taking his car apart and running around trying to get the old bearing pressed out and a new one pressed in I just had him buy a complete Knuckle/Spindle assembly from the junkyard and we swapped it over in a couple hours.

I am really glad he asked me to test drive his car as that strut could have come apart and caused an accident. Had to call an executive decision on him with the junkyard part, but he actually learned from it and was able to see how it saved him money and time.

I almost refuse to let my wife drive my truck. She's a great driver for sure but never locks the goddamn doors.

Plus always fucks up my radio. I'm not a "don't change my station" person or something..she will hit some button not knowing what it is and then I have to figure it out after. The last couple of times I tried setting it to the station she listens to and telling her "here's the volume, don't hit anything else" and of course she messed up shit. I'm tempted to "forget" to leave the faceplate on the radio if it happens again.

He works there and was able to get a discount on tires, have no idea why the tech loosened the bolts on the strut unless maybe he thought he was doing an alignment too.
