Get a tune and keeps the revs up. Unlike other trucks, you can hammer the 3.5L near redline all day.

You haven't asked a question you made a vague comment using very poorly chosen words, what were you expecting? Some info such as before after mpg's might be a good starting point for a conversation.

For reference in my 2020 with 30k miles I regularly get 24mpg on Hwy runs at 65 mph, 11.5 mpg towing a 5k lb trailer and combined average just under 20mpg when not towing.

Power in this engine is made above 4,000 rpm, it has minimal low end torque. The 4th gen tacoma makes all of its power at 1,700rpm, maybe trade it in for the new gen.

Am I like one of the few people that’s perfectly OK with their truck?

Just reading the forums, it sounds like the six cylinder is glacially slow, and the four-cylinder is a snail, but both of them will quickly get up to 80 miles an hour, which is faster than most states will legally let you drive.

Has the mpg dropped since you put 100's of lbs of un aerodynamic sliders & bulbars on it?

You are one of many 3rd Gen owners that are completely happy with their trucks.

V6 and even i4 have plenty of power for everyday driving. I laugh when folks say v6 is slow or it’s a “dog”

I guess 0-60 in just under 8 seconds is not enough for some people haha!

4K RPMs? What are you guys talking about ha!

99% of my driving I don’t go over 3k RPMs, and that’s towing my trailer. Of course when it’s loaded and I’m going up hills then yes, 3-4K RPMs but that’s totally expected.

I’m on 33s, got winch, front bumper and sliders. These trucks got plenty of power and torque.

    IMG_2011.jpg

I drove for 500 miles through mountain passes with overloaded trailer (~4500#) and stuff in back of my truck. I did not go over 4K RPMs climbing steep and long hills. IMG_1332.jpg IMG_1330.jpg

I should have said peak power. I just got back from a 6,000 mile trip with a GCVW of 10,000lb. I can cruise in 5th at 63 mph @1,700rpm if I'm being careful but as soon as you have a grade or headwind that puts you in a lower gear & higher rpm to get the power. 4th gear at 65mph you're right at 3k rpm.

Your 500 mile journey with a v-nose trailer is very different but if you're trying to keep above 55mph on a steep grade I bet you did go over 4krpm.

Believe me I'm not complaining, when towing I'm at the very max of what is capable of the Tacoma and it does just fine if you set your expectations accordingly. My only complaints of the Tacoma is fuel tank size and 3rd gear not locking the torque converter (Yes I should have got a manual but it didn't come in my config).

No sir. Here is a pic of climbing said hill doing 55 or so. 3200 RPMs… and about a quarter throttle input.

    IMG_2548.jpg

I’ve also had about 500 pounds in back of my truck.

    Kudos.

Is that 3rd gear at 55mph? If so I did not realise the gearing was that different between AT & MT. I swear 3rd @55 is around 1k more rpm on AT. Wind resistance is the biggest factor when towing. I had a steady pull up a 3,000ft elevation into 20 mph headwind a few days ago and it royally sucked. With my big toe feathering the throttle I could hold 53/55mph in 4th with the TC locked but when the wind gusted I was into 3rd up above 4k rmp.
