They have multiple; one of them even let's you do full custom swaps/etc. on your rig, makes you engage front and/or rear lockers, and more

Got some cutting ahead of me, I've been getting some hard dross on the backside with the new torch so I'll be running these today

16 gauge will be tested at 26, 28, and 30 amp

10 gauge will be tested at 32, 34, and 36 amp

and 3/16" will be tested at 38, 40, and 42 amp

    Screenshot 2023-12-01 114255.png

Got plenty of metal to kill so we'll see

Yeah but tom cruise didn't fly the SR71 so there's that.
So the story about the plane disintegrating was during testing where they moved the COG aft, and when it went into a high speed bank it lost stability as the flight controls couldn't counteract the extreme yaw condition. Amazingly the pilot Bill Weaver survived the incident.

On most accounts the plane was a challenge but it was the low speed stuff that got the pilots sweaty. The plane was computer controlled in stable flight so not like if you sneeze, hit the stick you're gonna wreck. Usually had enough fuel for one landing attempt, no go around, so you gotta get it right the first time. And refueling at night, the bird was heavy, sluggish and going as slow as it could to stay with the tanker. The only highspeed pucker moments in normal flight was when the motor would have an unstart but they managed to minimize that later on. Basically caused when the shockwave the cones are creating enters the engine.

There's just no other aircraft that was as extreme as the SR71.

Yeah that Bill Weaver story is just unreal, how he talks about going unconscious when the aircraft lost control and broke apart, then woke up in a free fall through the earth's atmosphere. Or was it after his parachute deployed? Either way, makes one think twice about complaining about having a bad/crazy day at work

Running 110ipm at 26 amps meant having to press the test piece out, which meant no further testing at 26 amps

What I found interesting is I'm running better results at a slightly slower speed compared to my other torch

    20231201_124701.jpg

What used to be 28 amps and 120ipm is now 30 amps and 100ipm

People complain about dross on thinner metal, which is a common theme but this is hardly any at all for a thin metal so I'm quite happy with the results

    20231201_124710.jpg

Meanwhile this is 26 amps at 100ipm

    20231201_124741.jpg

And this is 30 amps at 120ipm

    20231201_124804.jpg

Wonder how much more it'll differ if I use a 1.1 kerf width as I'm running a 1.0 kerf width

Round 2 was rather interesting testing 10 gauge; I altered testing slightly to better align with what I was running

Testing went from 34 amps to 38, and 60ipm to 80

    20231201_134211.jpg

Seems running 34, 36, or 38 amp had little difference at a speed of 60ipm; the three had less dross compared to 70 or 80ipm

    20231201_134417.jpg

    20231201_134425.jpg

    20231201_134431.jpg

The worst being run at 38 amps and 80ipm

    20231201_134503.jpg

Sure the dross on the underside is minimal, but it's also one of two that experience dross on top

    20231201_135311.jpg

Glad I'm running all these test pieces as I've needed to do it since I got my torch a month ago

The other torch last year dialed in much faster

He said he woke up, his face should was frozen over so he couldn't see, but he was aware he was free falling from 80k feet up, but with no vision, didn't know how far from the ground he was. He also knew that he didn't initiate and ejection and was unsure if the safety parachute would have been armed and deploy on its own. The sigh of relief when it did open and he could then open his visor must have been something else.
