Here in California one of the most reputable tuners is the CVC Tune. You can find him on Instagram, if I recall correctly he's capable of remotely tuning your truck if you have a laptop available. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the more reputable Toyota tuners have this capability as well.

Yep, just double checked. 3rd around 55 is 3200 RPMs. Would be a bit higher RPMs with stock 30.6” tires.

Yeah, wind resistance is a big one man. Makes a humongous difference, especially in fuel economy haha.

With AT, in 3rd gear at 55 your RPMs should be lower due to higher ratio rear end (4.30 vs 3.90) Unless AT gearing makes it higher?

I'll have to test next time I drive. I really wish Toyota did the OR DCLB with the manual. I've driven manuals all my life until I moved to America. Back home manual equate to about 80% of vehicles on the road (well at least back in 2010'ish). Had I known that 1/3 of my Tacos miles would have been towing (13k in the past 2 years) I would have gotten a manual in a different configuration.

    I'd love to find a chart comparing 4.30 vs 3.90 RPM/MPH.

No! You're not the only one who is OK with their truck. I'm sure there are plenty of us here on TW, and also not on TW. I really enjoy mine, even with the V6 and automatic transmission.

I've read the comment many times... 'if you want to enjoy your Tacoma, don't come to TW'.

But it's kinda like a train wreck. Some of us have to stop and look.

    Enjoy your Tacoma!

Hear, hear! Gotta love it. And yeah, I'm slinking in from the 2nd Gen Forum, but being a newer Tacoma driver I've never had any problems with engine expectations. Do I expect it to rip? No. Does it do fine, even merging onto the highway? Yeah. Is it a muscle truck? No, it's a midsize jack of many trades.

My daily is literally a sports tuned sedan pushing 458 HP at the crank/383 WHP, and I still enjoy driving the Taco immediately after it. Realistic expectations for its purpose.

Its the transmission that sucks. Be prepared for all the guys trying to defend their 3rd gens. Either live with it, tune it, or get a 4th gen. The driving reviews on the 4th gen say that the transmission hunting for gears no longer exist on the 4th gen. The 5:00 mark shows them flooring the 4th gen at an intersection. Seems like Toyota finally listened to everyone’s complaints on throttle lag and no low end torque. Id rather get the turbo 4 with 8 speed than the 3.5 v6 honestly.

Not sure I’ve seen many 3rd gen owners defend the transmission. You basically get the few smug bastards that claim it is totally fine (because they live at sea level and drive on flat ground) and those that live and die by their tune or regear.

Just drove home a stock 2030 TRD Off Road DCLB today, and it drove just fine, for me. OTT tune is next up, as my 2020 had one with the light setting, and it made the truck drive like a dream. I have no complaints with it's acceleration nor shifting once you get a tune done to it (didn't bother me today as well, bone stock), as my last truck had a bit of weight and gear on it, full time. I guess I am just grateful I can afford a vehicle like this, and happy with it.

Ls swap the truck. Better response and mpg. May mess up your warranty though.
