The Frontier is like a weird mildly updated copy of the 3rd generation Tacoma, just when they came out with the 4th generation.

I almost wound up buying one because they were priced pretty well and Toyota was not selling anything here at MSRP in the bay area circa 2022.

Cannot disagree with any of this. At the end of the day, there is really only one option for a mid-sized truck with the features and bed/cab configurations I want: Tacoma.
My partner and I will take a hard look at the SR5 XC-LB when it finally comes out next summer (assuming we can find one on a lot). Looks like ~42K with destination fees for the 4x4 SR5 XC and an upgrade package. Ouch. I also wish they had made the Prerunner a 4x4....

On the DI, Nissan doesn't have the same horrible carbon buildup issues that some cars, usually German, have.

The Q50, Q60, Gen 2 Titan and Armada/QX80 all have DI. I believe the Armada/QX has had it nearly a decade now. I haven't seen it brought up on my Nissan forums.

I had a 2016 GTI, those needed walnut blasting every 30k, it is really bad on those. The real nut kicker is that VW used DI/port injection in other countries, like D4S, just not for the NA market.

Really hoping Toyota can build a ton of these in the Mexico facility, that'll help. I've been seeing lots of discounts on vehicles like the tundra lately, as much as dealers would like to bend us over, good luck with the rates and inflation being so high.

Between the 2 factories you would think they will be able to keep up with demand.

It is the perfect little truck that does nothing well! And yet love the damn thing.

They certainly addressed all the short comings of the 3G. Believe the 4G is going to be a winner. Totally knocked it out of the park for a compromise vehicle. Though….could have gotten better fuel efficiency, but oh well, as they say can’t have everything.

Yep…for the bro crowd…”Hey man, nice truck! So sorry about your penis…”

Pre-Runner designates 2 wheel drive in Toyota nomenclature.

It means whatever they want it to mean.

Initially, it meant the six lug platform rear wheel drive to differentiate it from the rear wheel drive 5lugs.

Now technically all of them are prerunners since the 5lugs are gone.

Well that’s reassuring, thanks. I’m still considering one as they can be had for less, and I never had any issues with mine, except for a leaking valve cover at 150k miles or so on the hardbody. Didn’t have the Frontier that long. It was great though, aside from the heavy steering and cheap seat material.

Yeah, Nissan needs some new designers. It’s pretty derivative and odd looking at the same time.

But I don’t particularly like any of the new car or truck styles, so my opinion probably means nothing.

Nissan design has been horrible. It's why I never bought the updated Titan, looks like a Ford ripoff, right down to the headlight switch being moved from the typical Japanese spot on the stalk to the dash just like a Ford.

The new Frontier looks good from the front or back, but the side profile is weird, even worse on the king cab.

Uhhh, from a very quick google search....
"Bought my 2018 Titan with 9,000 miles on it and it was fast as crap when I first got it. I've noticed it is definitely not as fast as it used to be, and before purchasing it I was not familiar with the direct injection issues and carbon buildup on the intake valves. My truck now has 44,000 miles on it which by todays standards isn't very old at all. I just finished pulling the intake manifold off to check the intake valves and dam do these things look like S**T!! See the attached pic. I'm right now in the process of cleaning them by hand with a nylon brush and intake valve cleaner. Luckily most the buildup is coming off so far andis just soft gummy stuff. I will DEFINITELY be installing catch cans in the very near future! If you're truck is running slow this is probably why."
    E5478A95-8F6C-4BA5-A2B4-1E701F14D998.jpg

Any DI engine is more prone to this issue than a D4S motor. BE aware, tread carefully.

Also, lots of Catch Can talk everywhere on DI engines, so enjoy that as well lol.
