I’ve got a few pictures of the biggest rub I’ve ever personally seen. Unfortunately the pictures are from years ago and the landowner has since logged it and my buddy and me lost the lease there this season. It was a beautiful place to hunt and the rubbed trees were a sight when they were shined up. We had pictures of multiple bucks there. IMG_4163.png IMG_4162.png IMG_4160.png

I’ve seen some bigger but this is one of the biggest rubs where I’ve killed the buck who made it. I think sometimes it’s more of the personality of the buck, some are just more nuts about it than others. At least that’s my opinion.IMG_0227.jpg

Sounds like OTC elk licenses in Colorado. More and more units go to draw only, and yet they still offer unlimited OTC licenses for the remaining units. I believe they now sell more non resident elk tags than resident. And at $750 each, CDW has zero reason to change. It’s a cash cow, residents be damned.

Well, I blew my chance at a nice buck today. Saw him around 8:35 AM about the same place as Monday's buck, except he went deeper into the thicker shit.....never really got a good look at him and wasn't even 100 percent sure he was a buck. After losing sight of him, waited about 5 minutes, then rattled my antlers pretty good. About 5 minutes later I see antlers walking toward me from the thick shit about 50-60 yards out. Pick up my pistol and wait for a shot. He stops behind a few bigger trees and was turned sideways (like he might go back into the thicket). I took my time and shot. He jumped and went 10-15 feet and stopped somewhat broadside. Shot twice more and he took off running almost straight away waving his tail at me. Waited a good 20 minutes to check for signs of a hit. NOTHING!!! No blood, no hair, no leaves really kicked up. Followed his path till I hit the neighbor's property line (don't have permission to hunt there). Wet leaves from yesterday's all day rain didn't help. Went back to the blind and waited another hour and 15 minutes then retraced my tracks to the neighbor's property. Then sort of zig-zagged for another couple of hundred yards looking for anything. Once again, NOTHING!!!!
At least, it looks like clean misses as opposed to my crossbow episode at the beginning of November.

Be back out in 2 weeks for Ohio's bonus weekend gun days. Hopefully, Cole will be feeling better, too (sinus infection/laryngitis) so he can go.

My old hunting partner in Vermont shot a 17 pointer back in '97.
Biologist aged it at 9 1/2 years and said it probably wouldn't make it through the Winter. Teeth were worn down to nothing.
