    KR,

here in my part of the county you can do hughes/dish or you can do this thing we have..... its a local provider that has cellphone towers set up in a lot of places & you have like a mini dish in your yard that goes beams to/from it. my 5mb package is $39 a month unlimited usage. They dont limit your usage cause the speed does it for them.
for another $20 a month you can get 10mb speed but thats it.

the people that own it are a mom/pop outfit that started in 2003. real good people & easy to deal with. local people, local business. so will stick with them unless it gets ridiculous.

there is no cable tv or fiber here & using a hotspot/jetpack is pretty shaky cause if you turn you head wrong here there is no cell service either. my phone bounces from 4glte to 5g like its a ping pong match & everytime it switches towers? it drops ya. LOL

love it & the peacefulness is well worth it. PLUS: it makes it real easy to not answer anyones calls. :)

coming in the near future the owners tell me they got some of that rural internet upgrade money & that if the power company will let them piggy on their poles.......................... we might get fiber!

now that sounds great, but its near 500' from the road to my house & my electric is underground for the last 1oo' or so. They tell me that id have to ditch/conduit that run & then they will drone the cable from the main road to each power pole & then pull it thru the conduit to the house.

all for $250 installation fee & me doing the ditch.

long story short: yeah man, id jump all over that at $59 a month after its in.

living rural. the best way to be!

    Get Starlink!!! :spending:

You can't stream anything on speeds like that. I don't have cable/sat TV, only a firestick and the internet. I don't know how @MTgirl manages to work with her current connection. When I had a connection like that with Hughes I would choose to make the 3hr round trip to work in the city than deal with the frustration caused from working on such a bad connection.

In SE Kentucky, we have Spectrum. However, we are very rural, so our house is like the last on a very long line, and about every 3-4 months, we have to have a Spectrum Tech come out to check the lines and such, as the service degrades badly over time. At any given moment, I can get anywhere from 50 - 500+ Mbps up, and around 5 - 20 Mbps downstream. Our plan is "Up to 500 Mbps". I have thought of calling them to see if I upgraded to Business Class, if the service might be more reliable/stable.... but I can't do that until I find another job. And worst case, if we have to move, then the internet connectivity here won't matter to us anyway.

i do fine with it. there are a few days here and there that my connection drops to next to nothing and then i call and complain and threaten to cancel my service and suddenly my service is fine and running at twice the normal speed and then it will trickle down from there.
right now watching a show on hulu and surfing on my laptop, no problem.
