I drove my last Taco for 18 years (thanks frame recall) so I thought the new one should get protection out of the gate. The dealership described the "undercoating" and the 10 year warranty. So. I went for it. And now am feeling superbly duped.
It is in fact "Corrosion Perforation Protection," applied to very specifically and only the FRAME, not the undercarriage. Among the lengthy list of items not covered under the warranty is "Surface Corrosion" defined as "visible rust on a treated, factory painted exterior metal surface..."
Am I being short sighted here or am I right to feel bamboozled and pissed?

I just went with Krown, they spray the underside, inside of frame, and inside of body panels.
But to answer your question: I don’t really know. I think everyone is gun shy on the subject here. Doesn’t hurt to add protection, especially if you live in the rust belt and/or have expect to keep your truck more than a decade. I’d do it to any brand.

I’d trust Toyota to build an engine, but to protect a frame I would not. Not sure about your specific dealer, but the frames need help from somebody.

Not sure if the 2020 is protected but I did a fluid film on my under last week.

Utah dumps a shit ton of salt every winter.

Your in vermont. What did they use to undercoat? If your worried take it to rovers North in Vermont they use waxoyl. Similar to cosomoline. Being in vermont you definitely need something like me in mass.

Thanks for the thoughts, folks. To clarify, I paid Toyota $1200.... Seriously... for this undercoating w the thought that it was more convenient than $200/year on fluid film, plus a 10 year warranty.
It's a waxy coat, the paperwork says "auto armor," and it smells like an entire boyband is wearing cologne in my truck.
I'm spraying "everything else" I can reach with fluid film now that I see how little they coated with the Toyota crap. (Also have to find out exactly what it is to ensure that the fluid film won't degrade it).
Sounds like the rest of you were smart enough to just say no... Rookie move on my part. 25 years of Tacomas, but only my 2nd time in a dealership

Had my Taco Krown Yesterday for the 3 rd year, my baby is protected from frame rust etc. I check underneath whenever I get it serviced looking for rust and don't see any so I have faith in Krown. just saying

Wait, you paid $1,200 for a dealer installed undercoating? Yes, you do have a right to feel bamboozled and pissed! My advice, get over it and move on.

The place my dealer uses, going through the dealer $1200,I made the appointment at the same place, same process, $550, with warranty and annual inspection/maintenance. It’s a waxy coating that needs touching up in high traffic areas.

Just do your research on what you put on it now. If it's wax like mine make sure you can us fluid film with it. Some will strip the other off. If it's a wax your best bet would be to buy spray cans of waxoyl or cosomoline those work fine with any other wax undercoat. Yes, you paid to much.

This supports my thoughts and worries. Annoying that they do not straight up disclose the product they use... And it is NOT an undercoating service, they shouldn't be saying it is. F me for not having the time or energy to do my homework . Thanks for the product reccos.

I've got about 1 year left on the "corrosion warranty" and then I'm going to the local Fluid Film shop. It's $400 but includes lifetime "touchups" on any area where it might get worn off. Mostly wheel wells would be my guess. I might still be driving my 1994 SR5 if it were not for rust.

Fluid film or Wool wax.j Wool was smells less. Get the clear. Sure Black looks better under there but it also makes everything look like a black greasy mess when you have do whatever underneath. Both colors work great though. I have 3 years built up and now just do touch ups in the Fall. No need to strip the old stuff because theres a little dirt on it, that just gives it some aggregate and makes it better

ahhh,,,, it's a dealer add-on, not a Toyota thing. You should go back to the dealer for specifics, if they didn't add paperwork with all the other BS, like they should have.
More than likely, they farmed this out to another shop and didn't even do the work.

    I can understand the frustration.

But I've been able to do a lot of traveling over the last few years, and I can promise I've not found any other place I'd rather live.

There are other places I've enjoyed, and it's ok to be a 'guest' for even expended periods of time. But that's not the same as being a citizen.
