    You have several options for a TRD harness. All should work fine. The headlights will bolt up perfectly to any 3rd gen truck. SR / SR5 / Trail is the only wiring / harness / ECU headache.

    I.e. no worries beef curries.

    I have an SR5 - I've been wondering about how the OEM LEDs work on the SR5. I've read a number of the threads on the these, I understand the whole wiring PITA issues.

    What I'm more wondering about is the DRL mode vs Auto. My SR5 only has Auto/Parking Lights/Headlights (Type C controls). The Type A and B modes appear to have dedicated verbage about the DRL modes. Does this matter? With the right harness (and associated headache), will these work correctly?

    Yes, with the harness that @Puppypunter still makes, the stalk (auto vs drl) does not matter. For auto headlight capable trucks with stalk on auto, the ECU sends the DRL signal when the ambient light sensor detects adequate light such that low beams are off. Whereas on my truck (no auto headlights) I'm stuck in DRL when the stalk is DRL and I have no ambient light sensor. That's really the only difference between the two.

    NOTE: Johnny has experimented with various ambient light sensors and has auto headlights on his own truck but nothing is available right now that I'd feel comfortable trying to get into other people's hands on that. I would like to experiment more with auto headlights on my '05 and '02 and maybe even the '16 going to auto (I have a spare stalk) b/c auto headlights are kind of fun.

    But at the headlight itself, auto vs drl mode isn't a material difference. SR / SR5 / Trail (aka SR5) all combine DRL + Turn on a single wire and the harness de-multiplexes that signal into discrete wires to feed OEM LED headlights which require separate inputs. The default mode is turn signal mode (so hazards and turns respond promptly) and then when a constant signal is detected it switches over to DRL mode.

    Couldn’t get my local dealer to honor the deal, so I ordered from Reeves. What a hookup!!

    @daveeasa - I’ll be ordering a harness asap!

    @daveeasa harness kit ordered.

    Q: Do you know of a split rocker switch? as in top half is an on/off switch and so is bottom - want a normal size switch vice two separate switches. Where I live we have to deal with wild horses along certain sections of roads, and I want to run small spots in the corner facia below main grill. Want to be able to toggle left or right based on road side I’m on.

    Namaste.

    Actually looking at my Taco today I realized that I have the one that says DRL OFF - Auto - Parking - Headlights, so I think in the manual that is Type A Controls (not 100% sure, since my 3 year old lost my manual since my last post here.

    Now the question of if I will buy these headlights.

    Wanted to say thanks for all the info in this post and a shoutout to @Puppypunter. I bought the non Trd pro headlights yesterday and a harness for my ‘23 SR5 Trail. Please let me know if you guys have any tips or recommendations for the install. I don’t foresee any issues but I know you all have a wealth of knowledge. Thanks again!

    I received my headlamps on Monday…. Question. Are they aligned to factory specs right out of the box? Or are they gonna be looking like Steve Buscemi when I turn them on?

    Did my install today. Here are my thoughts…

    * whoever decided to hire an accountant to engineer this truck at Toyota is an idiot. Who in their right mind would install a bolt behind a fender and under a bumper cover to secure a headlamp. That was a pain in the ass to get to.

    * when installing the FBC harness, be sure to check the orientation of the high beam/ ground connector when plugging it in. Plug it in wrong and the high beam will not work.

    * be very careful when wiggling / finessing the lamp into place. I slightly scratched the corner of the lens with the fender. Nothing major.

    * lastly, have extra fasteners handy if your truck is on the older side. Mine is a 2017 and the push pins / fasteners / clips were brittle and broke a few.

    So first review of the headlamps…. They have a MUCH wider light output than stock! Anyone else notice this?
