Same. I often wonder if people who make this joke can even tell me how old millennials are without looking it up.

I've seen some compelling evidence in this thread pointing to the superiority of current AT's over an MT for a truck these days. I've even witnessed it first hand navigating heavy, stop and go traffic recently with my newly acquired AT. I drove a stick for many decades and love and miss them dearly. Despite that, I want you to get a stick even though in the long run, it's not advisable. I want you to get one so I can live vicariously through the few of you out there lucky enough to have them. So put all the good advice and common sense aside and a get a stick. Pragmatism be damned, an MT is bon vivant!

But yeah, holding a my coffee mug while driving has been pretty cool...ate a corn dog WITH mustard the other day too!

They're good at fairs and the circus etc. They're good once every couple of years or so. I had a hankerin' after seeing one at a Shell station of all places. It wasn't that good. They used to be really good when my gut was iron-lined as a kid.

Well, let's be honest. Any solid food dipped into another food then fried, is more than likely good. That's just science.

In the immortal words of Roy Biggins discussing the rules for party foods: "If it's green, it's trouble. If it's fried, bring double."
    Words to live by.

One of the things URD heavy flywheel improves is stop and go manual traffic

however no manual is enjoyable passing through LA 4 hours to move 5 miles

Love my 5-lug 5M 4-banger but for your use I’d regear and upsize the tires for clearance. IMHO gearing should be matched to usage. Toyota does this with different trims but the reality is it probably should end up being altered even more. Sea level, plains, mountains, off road, power plants, all different.

V6 auto 100 percent. Always had a stick as I got older the auto is the way to go. If I did a lot of wheeling then I’d go back to a stick.

If I wanted a 4-cyl Tacoma, and I lived in the wide-open spaces somewhere, it would have to be a stick. If I had to go to the city on a regular basis with the stop-and-go and crazy city driving: 6-cyl automatic. It's awful where I am. This is all based upon the 2014 I have. Re: the V6 Aisin automatic: You can tell it's tough, will last, and is well thought out... but it can be "cranky" at times. If you have been old-man driving around town for a few weeks or up in the boonies fishing on dirt roads, and the "Intelligence" adjusts for this and dials in a "leisure" shift mode, it can be clunky when you return to civilization: ex: giving it some gas trying to merge from the on-ramp and it makes a downshift... ok: but if you then find out it's not enough and need/ demand more and it needs to downshift one more gear to give you the acceleration you demand, it sometimes balks like it's confused then makes the shift with a hesitant drama thing and then sorta slams it in. Like it's asking: "what's wrong with you? make up your mind." To be fair, in normal mixed driving, it's unobtrusive. Smooth shifts up-and-down and no gear hunting.

I have learned over time to give it the heavy foot initially if you think you'll need it: Give it the heavy pedal initially and with authority. It accepts this and will respond every time with a fast, firm downshift and no delayed-hesitation/slam drama. If you have to keep doing this for some reason: i.e "return to civilization" it adjusts, dials in, and settles down.

The 4.0L V6 is the loyal Labrador Retriever that will do anything you ask it to without running out of breath, while also dealing with the obstinate crabby automatic. It pulls and pulls and pulls and both of them together feel like a team that argues every once in a while, but will never break.

No complaints about the automatic. Some cars the automatic is garbage compared to the manual but this is not one of them

You can't "jump start" an automatic transmission and a 4 cylinder seems like it would be a bit under powered for the size of today's Tacoma's. I get 24 to 26 MPG highway with the V6, and it has plenty of power when needed. Get the manual transmission but not the 4 cylinder.

The 4 banger manuals have 4.10s in the rear (at least the 4x4s do). That helps a lot.
