    I know right!?

We are already starting to see discounts on them, imagine another year even more. Because of the hype around the Tacoma.

Think the only people who don’t like the Tundra are the ones who don’t know how to park…

I will absolutely say the resale on Tacoma and even Tundra is second to none. Part of that is the reliability factor, it really helps. I imagine a Toyota salesperson just has to say “but my truck won’t break down”. The proof behind it is the cost of an extended warranty. The lower the cost the less likely it is to break (since you’re buying peace of mind). Surprisingly the same warranty for a GM isn’t that much more than the Tacoma. Now go price a BMW or Audi warranty!

The resale is spectacular, mostly because of the inflated internet lure of the reliability.

My FIL is a Chevy guy, says he has had nothing but good luck with his. He also looks down his nose at “Jap Crap”. He is a dyed in the wool southern good ol’ boy.

Get that with any fan boy, they think their shit doesn’t stink. With our construction biz, we had a fleet of all the major brands…as the old saying goes “if it has tits or wheels, it’s gonna give ya trouble!” and they do…vehicles in general are a pain in the ass. After tending to all of those vehicles, (changing oil is a weekend long event!) I am over just the general maintenance let alone major repairs. Kinda looking for to the day of vehicle subscriptions, order the type of vehicle you need for the day or trip, it self drives up to the house and off you go. The idea of not having a personal vehicle is becoming very appealing as I age. Probably be dead by the time that goes mainstream.

Tundras have one of the highest US supplied parts content of all manufacturers. Plus being built in Texas. People need to get over the old “be American, buy American” mantra. It’s a world market now.

I have fam members that defend the big 3 to death and I can't for the life of me understand why!

Uncles equinox engine blew up at 68k miles....Father in Laws Colorado inline 5 almost the same! Step dads Durango V6 needed a head at 60k.

And that is just within my tiny family!

Meanwhile everyone I know with Hondas and Toyotas just drives and drives and drives and drives and drives.

Seriously GM how in the heck do you ruin a inline 5!!!??

Although it would be disingenuous of me to not mention my 2001 Cherokee 4.0 I6 head issue. 2 years of Austrian heads (2000/2001) were prone to develop microscopic cracks in the head. But I would still take that 4.0 over almost anything else! After fixing the head I'll still end up putting 300k on this Jeep!

I have personally ordered a factory Porsche electric fuel pump which was backordered from Germany. Made by Bosch a German supplier. Opened the box only to see the made in China sticker on it. Manufacturers are bowing to their bean counters. That was a $875 fuel pump

Yamaha is now having parts made in China also. I never ever ever thought I would see that day and it bothers the crap out of me!!

I just paid $425 for a starter the size of a friggin beer can and in Yamaha jetski world we really have NO CHOICE other than genuine Yamaha if you want it to last more than one season!

Who knows now how long a genuine Yamaha starter will last!? Time will tell.

It will be sold before it hits the lot i bet.....stupid buyers!

    Fixed that for you.

Supply and demand is real. Buyers drop demand, supply bloats, prices adjust.

No one is forced to buy new. One can be the king of their school debate team, and they still can't justify buying at those prices. Most people can't really justify buying new. The just want to.

Oh, I don't spend enough time here to get that reference. It's all good, no offence taken.

My comment was based on the fact that some people here were predicting huge price increases that I thought were way off base. As it turns out, their predictions were much more accurate than my expectations.

Our 2020 Corolla Hatchback had an electric water pump circuit failure at 18K miles. Turned out to be a bad main WP relay, but still....why the heck put something as finicky as an electric WP on a vehicle that is supposed to be the "most reliable"? I mean, I love my Corolla, it's the coolest little bright blue hatchback on the market (IMO) but really, a CEL at 18K? And, BTW the WP relay going bad can absolutely strand you on the side of the road needing a tow truck. Fortunately it happened near home.
And, all the while people talk up Toyota and trash on Nissan. I have a 17 y/o Titan, supposedly worst truck ever, only time it threw a CEL was when someone stole gas from it (missing gas cap) and has needed less than $500 in parts for broken stuff over the years (seat belt latch, thermostat housing, fan blower motor resistor and a driver window motor) never had it threaten to strand me on the side of the road. And my Q60 now has 70K perfect trouble-free miles.
Kind of a bummer our Toyota did that to us, but nowadays I like the design of Toyotas enough to forgive stuff like that. I really like the new Tacoma, so I won't bitch too much about the reality of "reliability".

Manufactures are all fairly close reliable-wise these days. Pretty much the luck of the draw, then some part will have a freak recall on it. Every manufacturer has those. Just received a letter for my ‘21 Tacoma about a possibility high pressure fuel system leak. While not a recall, it is guaranteed for the next 10 years incase the problem arises.

Find the current styling of Toyotas a bit garish, much prefer Volvo or VW, but they don’t make a mid-size truck. Would consider an Atlas however. Of course one of our friends has a ‘22 Jetta that is bricked and the dealer has no idea how to fix it.

While vehicles as whole have become tremendously reliable over anything pre-90s. Still a crap shoot with little stuff failing.

Most of all this reliability talk is all hearsay. Never see people putting up actual data sheets of failures over the course of ownership. Have folders full of receipts for my vehicles. Think I have two for the ‘99 Tacoma, since it had so many repairs over the years. Lol!

Engines on Japanese vehicles tend to go forever….everything else around it tends to fail. Have rebuilt just about the whole undercarriage on my 1st Gen sometimes 2-3 times. Gone through three third members. Pinion bearing failures was the culprit, all professional built using Toyota parts.

    Like totally.

Have suggested the Tundra or another 1/2 Ton, that has been the number one reply, #2 is it won’t fit in the garage. #3 is it doesn’t fit down trails.

yeah, I saw that and was aghast! but then I looked at where the dealership was and kinda nodded. they are gonna milk it for all it's worth.

on another note, I saw all the youtubers complaining about the lack of rear vents on the center console, but for those of you with 3rd Gens... do you have rear floor vents? because I was looking at a SR5 sitting at the correct price point without all the bullshit add ons here and it shows rear vents as part of the AC: SmartPath | Toyota
