I am new to this forum and new to owning a Tacoma. I purchased a 17' TRD Sport and was gifted a brand new 3-inch front spacer and 2-inch rear block level kit by a friend. Is it safe to install it as is (once I get a set of wheels, leaning towards 33"), or should I be concerned about it damaging the upper control arms, suspension, ball joints, etc over time? I'm not doing any off-roading, mainly highway driving. Let me know your thoughts or any alternatives as I'm definitely interested in lifting/leveling if done properly. Thanks

Basically yes, it damages the upper ball joints the most, but usually you get 100,000 miles before that happens. Most toyota joints last longer.

The issue you have is its a truck with age already, so you'll be stressing older ball joints and shocks, this usually leads to failures sooner. Like inverted shocks and control arms hitting coils.

The rear springs are likely sagged, the 2" blocks likely wont level it, and it will stress the springs more, so expect sagging.

Lastly, the 3rd gens are known to have vibrations in the front caused by cv angles that is only cured with ECGS bushing, so its another 300-400$ to consider. On top of possible rear driveline vibrations.

It may work out for you, but if you have original shocks, you're better off saving some cash and doing it right.

Makes me wonder why a friend gifted this. Bet he/she changed it out for something better.

2" Bilstein 5100s are the best bang for the buck, with no more than a 1" rear block will give you the least reliability issues down the road.

Stay 2/1, anything over that you will be chasing problems. As for 285's search, hit and miss going that large. 265's or 255/75's are a safer bet. Lots of discussions on this. Spend time searching/reading.

Why do you want to level it? Do you ever carry anything the bed? If so you'll end up ass low pointing your headlights at oncoming drivers.

Think this through. What do you need your truck to do?

And avoid used lift parts. Nothing is free. There will be other costs.

I’m running 3”F 2”R Ready lift with 4WP UCA’s & Bilstein 5100’s and 285’s . Couldn’t be happier and only just lost the front mud flaps and a tiny nub trimmed were the mud flap mounted . Haven’t rubbed but I’m only doing daily driving on road & moderated off roading.
Edit: Also no vibrations at any speeds nor on deceleration . But there is a front dif spacer that comes with the kit I believe that you should not run if you have crawl control or you could get some Deceleration vibrations the install dealer told me so it wasn’t used.

it will be fine. lots of people ran/run it. look at all the chevy and ford guys that run spacer lifts. no issues there.

you might get the axle vibration that is common on 3rd gens, but besides that, you will be fine. run it.

Some dealers are installing the 3 & 2 readylift as a dealer option and covering it under warranty so that says a lot and I’m absolutely loving mine with no issues.
