‘23 Tacoma 3.5L V6 is a dog….

Mine is 2020 4x4 trd sport , when I test drove it had 2 miles etc etc .Long story short I bought mine before the chip shortage and when the pandemic was starting to snowball, out the door price with taxes and fees was 45k(us), I know two people that bought 10$k mark up price non 4x4

 

Yeah, like I said, $50k doesn’t seem that crazy in comparison. It just sounds crazy for a midsize pickup if you’re looking at prices of midsize pickups from 10 years ago.

 

Well, after more than a few days of monitoring this post it appears that my initial temper was not necessary. OK, good ‘nuff! After a few more miles, 10,000 plus, I plan to have it tuned. Winter grade fuel sucks here in NW Montana. But, such is life. I will bide my time, read more posts and soldier on. I traded a true POS Nissan Titan for this Tacoma.Could not believe they offered as much as that Titan spent so much time at the dealership and cost Nissan lots of $$$$ and headaches. I have to get use to driving a V6. I bought a mid range TRD, 4x4 with few ad on features. I have added a Diamondback aluminum tonneau cover the weighs in around a 100#. I added the aluminum tool box within the tonneau cover. Plus a bull bar up front and sliders. All toll this is no more than 500# extra. I will drive with the ECT ON. Not going to larger tires. Will tow a1600# light off-road trailer some times. Fuel mileage will suck! I get that! Good ‘nuff! MTG

Don't take the assholio responses you got personally. Every thread here is filled with useless posts by sanctimonious douchebags. But mixed in with that are genuinely helpful posts by very nice and knowledgeable people. You have to learn to sift through the garbage to find the gems.

 

I will take the guff with a large grained f salt and sift through the input. I like my Tacoma. Just gettin’ use to driving smaller rigs. I drove a2001 F250 for years. Put over 300,000 miles on it before it just rusted away. It was powered by a 7.3L dirty diesel. Had gobs of power and diesel was reasonably priced. Things have changed. I will change. MTG

My experience…….This place has a strong bullshit meter. Any hint of BS the core are on it. However, most here are very passionate, caring and helpful. I’ve learned so much over the last 3 years. Following along almost daily has been enjoyable and enriching. YMMV. Welcome aboard.

OK, I'll admit it. I am old at 66, 50K+ for a Tacoma is just plain ole stupid. 45K for the average new vehicle is plain ole stupid. I guess I'll be driving my '03 Tacoma with 292K miles until I can't push a clutch pedal anymore.

 

Max, still a bit of a dog. Not really sure what I would categorize it truly as. My old 7.3L F250 spoiled me. The Titan merely angered me. My Tacoma…..well will have to adjust I assume. Gotta slow my butt down. Too many other things to attend to. MTG

 

The issue is the 7.3 makes all the power from 1500-2500 rpm and redlines at 3300. The Tacoma hits peak torque at 4xxx and power at 6xxx. So it’s just a completely different driving experience.

 

KDMAX website shows locations of tuners on a map. There is one serving Kalispell, Missoula, Bozeman or you could find another on a short drive....it's worth it. No, it will not affect your warranty. I spoke with a Toyota tech prior to getting mine. They don't look at your ECU settings at that level when performing maintenance...they would never know. Plus, you can always revert it to the factory tune if you don't like it or need to for some reason. Give the guy a call and ask him all your questions. I've found that the tuners are very helpful and stand behind their service.

Some claim improved MPG post-tune. I did not experience this but I also went to slightly larger tires around the time of my tune. Either way it's not going to affect MPG much.

It will affect driving/performance. Much better shift points/reduced gear hunting, completely removes the accelerator lag and is much more fun to drive in general.

 

Solution = Heavy Foot. Works for me.

 

I had a 21 v6 auto. I got used to transmission. I drove it mostly in sport mode to keep it out of 5th or 6th gear.

I switched to 23 MT.

Mine was a dog before it was tuned, now it runs more like an elderly wolf.

I have zero complaints though, I’ve loved it from day one.

 

OP, what is you MPGs?
