Saw a post in Tacoma 4G that said the Toyota Canada website still has the 2024 LC with estimated 27mpg (8.7 L/100km). I checked, and it does. Not sure why an SUV gets better mpg than a pickup, but Sequoia TRD PRO gets 20mpg combined and Tundra TRD PRO get 19mpg. Since the LC has the same engine as Tacoma, the Max versions should get 26mpg combined. A gain of 3mpg? Base LC has 31.6 tires, same as non max Tacoma TRD OR which get 23mpg.

Of course, Tundra TRD PRO gets 1mpg less than other 4x4s likely do to the taller tires. So a the PRO/TH will have a combined 25mpg?

Since the 23mpg combined for the non-Max TRD OR is with 31.6" tires, it will probably make 22mpg with the 32.6" tire upgrade. Which means the hybrid upgrade will net you an extra 3mpg combined.

If you drive 12K miles/yr and gas is $4/gal, you would save $260/yr with the Max. Certainly not enough to offset the $3,000? cost for the upgrade but you also get the extra 48hp and more importantly 148 lb-ft torque. The 2400W AC inverter may be useful to some too.

TSS 3.0 is much better (less annoying) than TSS 2.5.

Specifically the lane tracing assist is actually useful versus the beeping, wandering, misbehaving and irritating 2.5 version. You do have to (and should) continue pay attention to it as it struggles when the lines are faint/inconsisten and it punches out.

The Dynamic cruise, on the other hand, has been flawless on our 2023 RX with TSS 3.0.

Actually, even MORE than that. I’m pretty sure you have to get premium package sport or off-road to get them along with the rear window slider. Standard sport and off-road have same bed as the SR. That’s another reason I’m holding out for year 2… with 3rd gen they added stuff like power rear slider, heated mirrors as standard between year 1 and 2. I bet if you wait a couple years they will do the same with 4th gen and probably also make the nice dash gauges standard for all trims too.

Yah…the XtraCab disappears on the Sport, so DCLB to get a 6’ bed which another $4100. So $9100 to get a fairly worthless cubbie, because of all the package add-ons.

It’s crazy penny pinching by Toyota to have different beds to save a few bucks on not installing a tiny plastic door on some beds. Just make them all the same.

Doubt it's to save money, if anything, it doesn't save money to have multiple versions of something. Especially molded plastic, just make one bedliner and put it in every version.

But, I think they do little things like that to compel people to buy higher trims.... it's subtle, but probably effective.

Maybe so. I just know I saw a video (below) comparing a premium package off-road and a base off-road and those were all missing. Even if they aren’t all apart of the same package technically, Toyota tends to only offer certain things with other certain things from the factory. No way to totally specify which things you actually want or don’t want on your truck.

Yeah it is odd. Same with the leaf springs on the SR, why not make them all linked? Imagine their forensic accountant has an eyepatch walking around with a parrot on his shoulder, scheming where they can pinch a penny or three….

The leafs on the SR are so that you happily upgrade to a TRD. model and give toyota an extra 5k of your dollars and they can then make an extra 3k in profit

Never did like how Toyota specs their trims, it was the same getting a manual in ACLB, had to step to the Sport, was $3-4K extra, plus having fix some things to get it my liking. So roughly $5-6K just to get a manual. Settled on the SR AT.

Isn’t the payload lower with the leafs? Keep on a meaning to look it up, but keep on getting sidetracked.

I think that’s the game plan. Upsell everything. They probably won’t even make many SRs. Even some of the YouTubers seem annoyed by the pricing.

if the only way to get an SR5 with 4x4 is you have to get 1200 dollar rails and a 2000 dollar roof rack I'm gonna start sending hate mail...
