    Hey all,

Im finally the member who says long time reader first time communicator. Moved here ( Portland, OR) about 8 months ago from the north shore of MA. I was hoping to assemble a build thread for my truck but it was just declared a total loss.

2009 Tacoma Access Cab 2.7l 4-cyl Manual Transmission 5 Speed

-Prinsu Access cab rack, I documented and took took good care to install as I wanted to keep this truck for a long time

    -Leer 122 with Thule cap-rac's

-gonna sound hokier than it is but I made a really nice custom plywood double drawer bed slide with side storage compartments at the rear of the bed and sides to fill wheel wells.
( Ill add some photos )

    - I did other small mods like added cruise control, intermittent wiper switch, headlight harness, fog lights, spotter mirrors etc

Any opinions from you all for what I should do? or anything I haven't thought of?

I at least need to make the decision of wether to say goodbye or retain it tomorrow or the next day.

    Options I see are:

-To sign it over to insurance and say goodbye

-Retain the truck minus the salvage value.

-If I plan to fix it I won't have collision coverage for it, meaning I could easily find myself in the same situation without the payout next time.

-I can part the truck out and/or sell privately to someone who is willing to utilize the truck without the collision coverage.

    Thanks for any input71883968921__47A8D34F-CE1A-4373-97EE-A791CCC57A69.jpgIMG_0828.jpg

I was looking forward to putting these tundra/Sequoia wheels on.

Bed slide hardware was made from ball bearings and tube steel. I can attest to how much weight they hold.

anyways my project might have to come to an end :stayontopic:

Did the bags go off? Can you get more pics of the frame in the damaged area?

Doesn't look that bad if it's the fender and some front end parts.

No airbags deployed. I don't have the truck in my current possession, at the shop. I have a detailed inspection of everything, nothing listed for the frame. That being said the Frame was replaced 4-5 years ago. It's definitely not that much to get it back on the road but I don't know if it would be worth it without having collision coverage for the potential next accident.

What is the insurance company giving you for the value? The truck doesn’t look totaled so hopefully you can get it fixed.

If I was to get a Tacoma it would be 4x4 V6

In my experience insurance buys the vehicle when it’s totaled regardless of if you want to keep it

at which point if you do want to keep it, they give you the option to buy it from them for a certain amount that can be deducted from the payout.

if it’s towed to a yard to await auctioning where junkyard bidders go, that may be the place to pick it up if you are keeping it. You’ll know more than anyone if it runs and drives, to simply drive it back home.

Look into what a collector / classic insurer might do for you, after the repairs, like Haggarty.

around $17k , biggest problem I see with investing to fix it is not having collision insurance to cover another potential incident.

Thank you I had been wondering if Haggarty could help, that could be a way to save it for me.

Have you shopped around for the collision coverage? It can be hard to insure a salvage vehicle, but sometimes it's not. I don't know much about insurance in Oregon though.

No personal experience, but they seem to work a lot with owners to come to reasonable coverage, and it sounds like their rates aren't too bad, either. YMMV

I hear you with the v6, I liked the manual transmission and was the option I could afford/truck available at the time.

tthe situation you explain seems to be the case here. I figured I wouldn't know where to find it after they took it and could potentially lose it. its also not currently driving unless its dragging its front right wheel

Im new to the state of OR and haven't had much luck in my searching of being able to get collision coverage after rebuilding it. I will have to explore contacting insurance companies and asking.

Breknraj mentioned trying hagerty which may be a good bet if there is one

That’s great to hear! 138,000 4WD. Do you mind me asking who your insurance provider is?
