The thing is though using the correct primer for the job. This has bit me on the behind with this house and all the nicotine buildup on the ceilings/walls. Tried some water based that was supposed to cover it up, but it was no match for 56 years of Camel unfilters  Had to use an oil base.

Not pointing fingers but supposedly my wife did her research on which primer and paint to use..

I do all the other work she does the paint but I was just helping here with this.

    no more I say!

    kidding, but not really.

At this point all you can do is spot prime the spot and paint without saying one word, unless you like your couch!

I seal all end cuts (for exterior work) with the Zinsser Shellac based sprays. Clear for anything that'll be stained and the white for anything that'll be painted. Good shit. Mother Nature's solution.

My neighbor is a painter (40+ yrs). He turned me onto the stuff many years ago.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I also use it for boards with knots that will get painted.

I actually use that as touch up for the trim in my house. Well, used to. It's all getting painted in the Spring. It's nothing special, just #324 smooth casing and #713 smooth base.

Picked up a Sonos Arc & woofer this weekend. Got the Sonos flush mount & a cable pass thru brush wall plate thingy. Came out pretty damn well & I’m the only one that will notice the tiny bit of wall plate visible behind the speaker. Oh, and also the plate doesn’t match the brush pass through but nobody will see that. I’ll just lose sleep over it until I get them color matched.

On Thursday we had a pretty big storm come through. No big deal, right? Rains all the time down in the swamp. Well, apparently our skylight sealant had failed and this weather event is how we found out. We called a roofing company out expecting the worst, but all we had to do is replace the sealant. They inspected it and found no damage to the structure and insulation and told me that I can just paint over the water stain on the drywall. What do y'all think?

Unless you're absolutely certain that the insulation isn't wet, it needs to be replaced. Wet insulation looses it's R-value and will promote mold growth if it doesn't dry out quickly enough.

I’m certain of nothing. That’s part of why I’m asking. This roofer could have took me to the cleaner but he told me that everything was ok and charged me $500. I appreciate y’all giving me other things to think about.

The only other bit that I’ll add is that I can’t get to this part of the roof in the attic because the skylight that was leaking is in the way. Should I take out some of the drywall from inside and have a look that way?

You could cut a small hole and feel with your finger to see if it's wet. I don't trust what the roofer says, but I'm not there to see it for myself nor is it my house.

    that's not right
it should be in the air stream not a blind alley. looks like no side wall access to that duct
might want to look at an active steam unit, note they don't like hard water
