Who is getting one for their 4th gen?

I'm old, generaly not a fan boy, 75k on an 18 OR MT without even tuning, pro grill or or wheels that poke; but I grew up on MT VWs and the JB4 has a history of being safe and reliable. I think I'm buying a 2025, and bet I won't make it 20k before trying a jb4 out on it.

I anticipate full tunes with more performance and clutch issues in both cases for the MT (jb4 or tune), but will probibly do it anyways

Nothing like a warranty voiding mod discussion on a vehicle not yet released

And from personal experience no doubt. But cheers on the M/T.

Now that we have heard from he lime green pro-bro crowd, anyone else? For those unfamiliar with piggybacks: Plug-in module, typically less performance then full tune, can be removed any time including for dealer service, undetectable after removal unless they deep-dive raw historical data. As for warranty voiding, the same could be said about any mod (Subaru tweeters, anytime backup camera, ECGS bushing, aftermarket suspension, any tune). They still have to show it caused the failure they are trying to avoid; there are thousands of discussions on this and the Magnuson Moss warranty act online, very few of them involving an actual failure and dispute with dealer, we don't need to re-hash it here. Plenty of folks here with tunes on the 3rd gen 3.5, this would be similar except you will get much larger performance gains out of a FI engine then you will out of NA.

Depends if the Tacoma engine can handle it and is overbuilt from the factory. Many people are tuning the Honda 1.5T and they are blowing head gaskets. Poorly designed engine. Even on stock engines head gaskets are being blown. So it’s not necessarily from the tune. Just a weak engine overall. That engine probably one of the worse engines Honda makes right now.

I have a bmw M car and it’s tuned. Bmw tends to over build their engines with a closed deck block design, etc that can handle the extra hp/boost. I have no worry there.

With Toyota I would be nervous to crank up the boost alittle. Also you have to think about cooling? Does the Tacoma have an air to air cooler for the turbo or is it water to air? Water to air is superior.

cranking up the boost is easy but the heat management is harder.

Cranking up the boost makes for great power gains, for a very short time period. It’s a pick up truck, not a track car. Use it as such.

I would likely not do it on a manual also ... most clutches are mated to the proper engine power levels.... you get great short term boost and then you're out a clutch.

I will have a jb4 tune within a few months or buying. I work on my own stuff and rarely, if ever use the warranty. I'll likely cut fenders for 35s almost immediately. Hoping to hit up the rubicon when the snow melts, so I'll fab up some sliders before summer too. Half the fun for me is making it my own. Not with bolting overlanding crap on but doing actual fab work.

Try it and see what happens. :) Toyota deliberately reduced the redline on the MT by 900 rpm and peak power by 8 hp due to crankshaft hammering, so you'll probably have issues. The AT model should easily see +40 rwhp / +54 lb-ft on 93 octane with the tuner, if Highlander dyno results are any indication: https://burgertuning.com/collection...rts/products/jb4-tuner-for-toyota-highlander/
