Two downed trees in the road and one ditched car this AM. First big snow of the season, heavy and wet.

Winch got some exercise - any excuse to play with my toys. I was surprised and pleased at the number of people who stopped to offer to help or parked with flashers on farther back to screen me while I worked.

Oh got my OEM hardware for my New(to me) mud guards.

at $2 a screw...you need 4 to install mud guards on a truck that doesn't have them. And it takes 5 per mudguard (4 are already there...)
I guess that means the $179 mud guards from the dealer are mostly screw cost... like a trip to Vegas ;)

I forgot to ask ahead of time, I thought the screws were on all of the trucks holding stuff together. Didn't know they were for mud guards only. Could have taken mine as well on those :spy: sorry Brian

No. YOU DO need them. There are 4 screws that you don't...The 4 red circles here are the non-trim holding screws. The rest hold the fender flares and inner wheel well shields on.. upload_2023-12-4_18-50-32.png

We have some stock-friendly spots that are doable if you don't mind the risk (there's always a risk) of slight damage

Psyched when something pans out. I'm putting together a factory no cut jump harness to add my Alpine power pack amp. Repurposing a popular "add an amp" harness and as suspected It's perfect. They already tapped the #15 wire for acc power. I just tap #1 for the ground and wire up.

I can then use the other side of the harness for the speaker connections. They've already tapped the front right I just need to tap the front left and cut some of their wires.

    Hi all,

I just got a new (to me) 2012 second gen TRD off road and live in Western Mass. I am looking for someone to apply an undercoating, based on my research here and other places I'm thinking cosmoline. Also looking for a reliable mechanic and someone who could tune the truck. Also any rec's for light upgrades? I live in a rural area with very little street lighting and prefer other means of deer hunting than with my truck.

My last truck was a 98 taco that lived with me out west so Ive got a lot of questions about northeast and second gen ownership. Thanks for your help.

I should add I'm also looking for a spare set of wheels and winter tires. If I find some rims I'll probably mount blizzaks. That's what I used for winter tires on my RAM and they worked great.

@tacobell007 does woolwax which I personally recommend.
If you are close to him, he can technically be your mechanic too, he does solid work all around.
Light upgrades I would suggest looking into Diode Dynamics fog lights first. There are also headlight upgrades, but you could go with light bars behind the grille.
I have some rims I used on my 05 Sequoia a while back. I don't mind selling you those. Only problem is that they have old rubber that needs to go. Only a set of 4. They are Granite Alloy GA641 rims and they did fit on the Taco the one winter I had them on.

I found that clear, non fogged or hazed oem headlight housings with Philips WhiteVision H4 3700k bulbs to be an immense upgrade over whatever old worn down factory bulbs were in the lenses. Have to get the 3700k bulbs from eBay or UK version of Amazon. Most of the WhiteVision bulbs you find for sale are 4200k, if that matters to you.

For lighting upgrades, I’d start here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-headlight-upgrade-h4-not-led-or-hid.398066/
For added light, I run knock off ARB style 9” round leds from Amazon. Those things are bright! Of course, when someone is coming at you and you turn them off, you can’t see anymore…
For rust prevention, I personally would start with a coat of cosmoline or Amsoil HD metal protect getting inside of the boxed section with an extension wand really good and then use woolwax as a preventative after that. Also, extend the ac heater core drain so that it doesn’t drip right on the frame.

How was the fitment on the rims? Disposing of the old rubber isn't a big issue for me. I just want to make sure they won't stick out and throw more salt and road debris back under the truck. PM me a price if you're comfortable.

    Thanks
