Probably not, but when that person put the entry into the website they were. But I would put money on it that if a dealer was charging markup on the Gen 3 at one point in time that they will do it on the Gen 4. In my sample size of 3 that holds true on what I have found so far. Same goes for the 2 that I have confirmed not doing markups are not flagged as ever doing them.

The Colorado is cheaper feature for feature than Tacoma for 2024, we will just have to see if Toyota can rest on its reputation

Developing “new tech” is certainly expensive, but can be offset by more basic technologies & materials, utilizing production economies of scale, parts & platform sharing. Case in point, you’ll also get TSS 3.0, along with a ton of other new features common to a 53k Tacoma Limited, in a humble ‘25 Camry LE.

Regardless….duh…the price of a 2024 should go up. Nobody I’ve seen here has argued that gem. But what’s too much? Or new tech aside, what basic standard items got taken away and tossed in a plus package? In other words, questions a reasonable person might ponder before making a deposit.

Not the end of the world, but by virtually any measurement, they’re expensive. It’s fact, and bashing the old one won’t change it. Add the distributor & dealer games, and you’re getting lit up. Hopefully Toyota recognizes the collective anxiety, and juggles future packages for people who want the truck but may not create their own content on YouTube to pay for it.

The more influencers I see in Toyotas the less I want one, it's not brand specific but I usually only see Toyota content. Nothing against influencers or Toyota and this defies logic.

So who here is actually planning on buying a 24 Tacoma and what are you willing to pay?

Platform sharing helped big time to spread development cost out and share it among multiple models, and allows for similar tooling to be used across models. That does not necessarily mean it is cheaper than the outgoing generation though. I think it just allowed for a much more advanced platform at a lower cost for that new platform.

Looking at the frame comparison between the 3rd and 4th gens, there is no doubt that it is more expensive to manufacture the TNGA-F platform with the more advanced tooling to form that frame and the process for adding "Dejima" plates. Leaves and spring hangers are much cheaper than coil buckets and multilinks as well

This, plus needing to test drive it.

I really want coils, but I need to test drive a leaf vs. coil truck to see and feel the difference.

If done right, it is a massive improvement.
The one new Tundra I tested was too stiff for my liking, but Ram 1500 is unbeatable for full size ride quality.

I am hoping since the Tacoma has a lower payload than the Tundra, it will be exactly what I want ride-wise

One thing that seems to be glaringly obviously missing from the drive videos is a bombardment of "Damn, feel all this low end torque, feel this baby go!" type comments.

    ...unless I'm missing something.

I've seen at least one video where the guy said that the truck feels way more powerful than the 3G, and the new 8AT is far better. And he drove to the event in a 2021 Tacoma.

278 HP 317 ft-lbs are good numbers for a daily driver midsize, but that isn't going to throw you back in your seat in a vehicle weighing 4,500+ lbs

I have seen plenty of POV drive videos claiming the torque was very nice though. I think it will be very pleasant, but it will not feel "fast"

I wonder how long it will be until dealers have trucks we can actually test drive? I assume the first trucks they get will already have buyers before they even hit the lot.

Me....and figure out what a fully loaded Canyon AT4 or Denali is and that is where my limit will be +/- 2 or 3K. Will not pay more than MSRP though.

Not I, I'm 6mos into a 36 loan on my current vehicle, and it's a new model year which I'm sure will be difficult to obtain. I'm not ruling out the truck as a future purchase.

Probably a good little wait, I am sure folks have been putting down deposits ever since it was announced and I doubt that two newly retooled plants are fully in the swing of production of a new platform yet.
