FYI might be a good idea to add some blue loctite to the small hex screw holding the key blade. Mine started come loose and made it seem my flip fob was stuck in the open position

When I first got my V1 a few years back, I flipped the key open one day and it shot straight out and into the street

Added blue loctite after that and have had zeros issues since.

So the v1 flip keys are commonly breaking?

Has anyone gotten a case replaced under warranty for a bad design?

I can get a flip key off ebay for $9 that does the same thing as the $70 MESO key, its really hard to justify the price.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/296004131735?fits=Make:Toyota

I emailed meso, they asked for my purchase date, I sent the invoice for the purchase, but no response.

Looks like my failure is the same as pictured above, the plastic just shatters on the flip section.

Anyone use the eBay option? Aesthetically at least, it’s more appealing, ugly in an inoffensive oem way; the Meso enclosure is a bit on the tacticool side for my tastes.

Guess I'm not alone in this. I had the V1 version and wore it out. It would no longer stay closed. It was nice when it worked but $70 for something that barely lasted 3 years isn't worth it for me.

Aliexpress has new style flip key replacement for the Tacoma H key. Drop in replacement.

A while ago, I stumbled across a thread (that I unfortunately cant find) that said some people had been able to make the H key into a flip key with overseas Toyota OEM fobs. If anyone knows what model fob was used (and if its a Euro model and not an Asia market one) I'd go to my local Toyota Germany dealer and order it and see if it works! So far my research hasnt been effective but Im hoping someone could maybe point me in the right direction

I went down the rabbit hole for this one. It's called a 'euro style flip key'. I couldn't find any information confirming if it'll work with the Tacoma. Strangely enough, it's compatible with the Rav4 which "should" be the same as the Tacoma manual keys.

If I get bored with current key, I might go down this path. I've always liked my audi/vw keys.

Yup, I actually ordered 2 of these for $4 each plus shipping shortly after my last post. Rumor is that it has the toyota logo on it and its not just blank black. Worth a try for $13.27.

I'll be trying this one out as well and will be reporting my findings.

My flip fobs arrived today. I bouht the wrong ones, i got the one with the trunk button for some reason. I ordered the right ones.

The big space at hte top has a toyota logo and its also the button that opens and closes the key. Its pretty nice for $4.

Now I gotta order the correct ones with the alarm picture instead. lol

Well, the ones with the trunk button were much more flippy than the other two that arrived.

However, I can swap the buttons, so I'm good to go.

Paid $4 to have them cut and I'm a happy camper again.

Its every bit as good as the meso fob, and I got backups in case this one dies.

Yes, I have 4 keys and they all have the Toyota logo on top. I like it.

The only difference is two have the alarm logo on the top button and two have the trunk opener on the top button.

The two with the trunk button have a noticeably better mechanism, much smoother flip out.

All of them are better than the meso key so far, I appreciate the key is turned 90 degrees as compared to the meso keys.

I got one of those off of eBay for about $12 shipped. My Meso fob was starting to have issues and I wanted to try something new. The eBay one lasted maybe a year before the spring/flip mechanism broke and was unusable. When that happened I learned about the V1/V2 versions of Meso's flip fob and got a warranty replacement. While waiting on that, I also grabbed the AJT key and have been digging that one too. So now I have one of each, ha. I like them both.

If you're happy with your purchases, then I'm happy for you.

I spent 4 bucks on the keys, and I bought 4 of them in total because I fully expect the key to break at some point and don't want to go through this again.

I sent an email to meso and they responded asking for the order information etc, and I sent them the order number, receipt, etc and got zero response.

However, I spent over $70 bucks on the meso key and it broke because it was a flawed design, and any requests for support were basically ignored. I can buy 17 flip keys from aliexpress for the price of one meso flip key.

Why would I buy another $70 key? I mean, its got to be $60+ profit, and while I was happy to support a forum member, come on, how much would it cost to send out a replacement plastic part for the poor design or defective part?

I get that the mailing postage would cost more than the replacement shell, but supporting your customers when you make a faulty product shouldn't be that hard.

I looked up the price and then read the review on Meso's own website and they are eviscerating. I mean, wow they are harsh reviews. You would think that they would get on top of this and start doing some serious warranty work here. From the reviews it seems that every V1 is complete junk and they are all broken, so I'm not the only one with this experience.

14 months in and mine cracked near the button. Waiting on a response to my request for support, but guess I'm hosed since their warranty is only one year.

Update - well cool, they got back to me and are shipping a replacement.

Glad they are making right. I checked the link from the post above yours and the negative reviews are gone. Im wondering if its a new design finally to update the (apparently) poor design of the old one
