So I got home and thought I would have more time before our new baby came but not so. So from work to new baby with our other 2 year old it took a while before I could do anything to the truck. I finally got the truck to a fabricator/builder I know and we talked about it and came up with keeping the rear mount and shackle where it is and moving the front mount forward a few inches and also cutting a section of the oil pan out to make room for the 3rd member uptravel. So now that’s done and the axle is in a better place but I now need to find or build different leaf springs for the new location. It won’t be fast but eventually I’ll get around to it. Looking around on pirate and Rockauto I am looking for a spring around 48/49” long eye to eye under weight and front bolt to center pin around 22/23”.

this is the new location and the new shackle angle. The current trail gear 3” springs under weight are about 46” long and so a spring around 48 or 49” would give a decent shackle angle.

I don't know what your fab skills are, but you can just move that rear shackle mount to get eh angle right.

If he's running the trail broken kit, have fun. I'm pretty sure the bottom frame is cut and weld to shit and cutting right next it it won't be fun.

Look like who ever weld it in place got carry away without check proper placement.

84-88 Yota rear springs should be 49" eye to eye

    89-94 are 51" (?)

I’ll check it out. Is that under weight or not?

Yeah it’s the trail gear rear shackle mount. In hindsight I would not use any trail gear parts for an sas. Or a Toyota axle for that matter. But here I am and because it’s a trail gear mount we decided to leave it. It’s strong but moving the rear mount would basically mean cutting out the trail gear mount from the frame and plating the crap out of it to bring it back to stock strength then putting in probably a mount like sky’s off-road. But that would be way more work than just trying to find or make leaf springs that will work with the existing position.

Hopefully in the next few days I can find time to go my local leaf spring shop and we can dig through old springs to see if something that he already has will work. Otherwise it’s back to Rockauto and the junkyard looking around for a good spring.

Are you even sure got TG 3" springs? Your picture on post #7 spring don't seemed to match the spring on post #26.

Look like a 3 pack at #7 to a 4 pack in #26. The length on post #7 is also different compared to #26.

The first time I had the trail gear 3” pack with the 2nd leaf taken out because with the full pack was just stupid arched and stiff. Then we put it back together when we moved the mount to see what the height would look like with the full 3” pack.
Then I ended up going to Mexico and got a spring shop down there to build custom leafs for super cheap to the correct size and it’s a lot better now.
I think there is still room for improvement but it’s drivable now without feeling like my back was going to explode with every tiny bump.
The shackle angle now is probably about 15 degrees back and the springs are fairly flat. So maybe a little longer and a tiny bit of arch will get me to my desired wheel travel numbers. Right now I on that dirt I got to about 17” in height before my front suspension stopped articulating and the frame started tilting. The lack of shackle angle limits the down travel and the flat springs limit the up travel. But there is now plenty of room for more up travel and hopefully I’ll get to where the shocks are my limiting factor for down travel.
