Okay changing air intake filter. One on the top, the whiter one with the foam bottom is the old on, yellow looking one is the new one. Pictures part number is the new on. Is this right? The new one looks different

Yellow paper is definitely OEM. Not sure what that foam is about.

The foam pad that is attached to the air filter is called a pre-filter and it’s there as an added layer of protection for the filters of vehicles that are driven in severe conditions.

The purpose of a pre-filter is to stop larger pieces of debris from getting stuck in the filter’s pleats and prematurely restricting airflow. It’s a well-intentioned addition for certain makes and models, but has led to quite a bit of confusion, particularly in the DIY community.

I know what a foam pre filter is:) Just wasn’t sure if that’s OEM.

I had that issue with my bmw also. Sometimes they have regional specs.
Just use the yellow one and call it a day.

or tear off the dirty foam and drive on the clean old filter for another 20k

OP are you in an area that gets a lot of snow, or a dusty area, or did the truck come from one of these areas? The white part of the filter is used to catch dust and snow that gets sucked into the airbag. Keeps it from clogging up the paper part of the filter. There is a part number for the filter with the gauge pre filter. But you will be fine without it.

EDIT: look on the original filter for the part number, compare to the new filter

I brought 3 Wix filters with me on my trip. Been a lifesaver having the foam especially in Mexico and Peru. If anyone needs the number it’s :WA10085

Leveled with Bilstein 5100 shocks, Kumho AT52 265/75 tires, Redline hood struts, R4T tailgate lock, Matt Gecko LED strips in bed and under hood, WeatherTech hood guard, OEM bed mat, Husky floor mats, Carhart seat covers, Grille replacement with Toyota letters, Sony AX6000 replacement head unit, OTT lite/mild tune, and an occasional splash of fuel additive.
I change my air filters every Spring regardless of how they look. Some have foam, some don’t. Sure it’s overkill. Always have and always will.
