I had both eyes done (cataracts removed, new Nikon lenses installed) 4-5 years ago. Regaining my sight was an incredible thing. I had no idea how much it had deteriorated over time.

Yeah, spoked is more bend don't break. Cast is break.

This made me go look at aftermarket wheelsets for the F800GS again. Minimum $1600 for ebay special tubeless, max around $2500 if I go Woody's Wheel Works.

I've known I would eventually need both done. My right eye just got cloudy this year. I had a toric lens put in to correct my astigmatism. When the time comes, I will have another put in on the left side. I looked through my optics the other day without my glasses and could clearly see the reticle......that's how I know it worked   Before, it was still a bit blurry even with glasses. I almost fucked up and sold my rifles since I could really only see the sights on my pistols :D

That would make sense. I must still be thinking in car wheel terms where high quality cast bend and cheap break lol. for basically the same reasons lol. one's driveable, one's not.

i feel like I might need to get my eyes looked at again. I got LASIK back when i was 20, but recently noticed my right eye vision isn't as good as my left. Confirmed when I tested out a new red dot sight and could barely make out the minute details of the reticle with my right, but the left eye was much clearer. I'm leaning towards mild astigmatism but idk

yup sounds like my issue lol. you can have lenses implanted? or am i misunderstanding lol

I did similar dumb things before my surgery. Stopped riding, hunting, sold a couple bikes, stopped flying model planes and helicopters, sold all that stuff. Back in the game now though!

I see a lot of smooth west coast gravel and not the type of stuff we have on the east coast that will def bend or crack a rim IMO.

Just UHD tubes front and rear with the front being at 10-11 psi and the rear being 9-10. Tubliss is far different from the "tubeless" adv bike wheels these guys are talking about though. I have been seeing on the EXC/FE Performanc and Tech talk group the stuff people are running that can still manage occasional road use and I've been pretty intrigued. Mostly it's people who are hole sawing the mousses either to get more life or control heat. Eventually I want to get 2 different rears, one dedicated rock setup with a mousse and my sand setup.

Yeah. Layman's terms....they slice the cataract out and place a lens in there. I work in an ER....so that stuff doesn't really bother me.........but I would suggest not watching the YT vid. I never should have. It wasn't 2 girls 1 cup bad.....but I was a little freaky knowing that was gonna happen to me

interesting, didn't know that was even a thing.

Yeah I made the mistake of watching a bunch of LASIK videos before getting it done. Still didn't compare to smelling the ozone as my cornea was being lasered away though lol

Watching the YouTube vids was the worst mistake ever. Don't do that.
Actual surgery is easy these days, just a slit, ultrasonic pulverization of your old lens, that gets sucked out and a new lens put in it's place.
The doc had me awake for the first eye, remember the entire thing. I asked to be knocked out for the 2nd eye.

I am highly sensitive to any kind of pain med/narcotic. I remember them saying they were giving me 2 of versed Next thing I know I'm hearing the doc tell me to stare at the bright light. The surgery only took about 15 minutes.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have a dedicated slick rock setup with Kenda Equilibrium tires, also Tubliss. That some serious traction with that setup. Definitely feels like a trials tire.

I've seen some pretty sick things in the ER(things hanging out that shouldn't/things shoved in that shouldn't/toes in a boot/etc)......I guess it was just knowing that was gonna happen to me

I assume it won't last on the road too well right? I have been impressed with how well the 525 cheater lasted on the road last season(riding to and from the spots). I'm trying the non gummy VE33 enduro because my buddy who rides my home turf a bunch recommended them. Saving my other 525 when it's time to get back in the rocks again more in march/april. If I ever get down your way I'd love to ride with you. I'm not fast by any means but I like the abuse of trying to keep up.

Yeah those 525 are nice. I have a set that are pretty worn, but not them for spares.
I recently purchased the GOATs from GoldenTyre. Gonna try these out on some of our extreme trails up here in NC. I find a good hybrid tire works best for what i usually do, but that also means I chew thru tires.

@cynicalrider I am awaiting to burn thru what’s on the KTM 500 to give these Metzlers a go. A buddy who I ride with and races really likes these.

Speaking of tires, the Michelin Road 6s are out for delivery! I’m unsure if I should mount them up this weekend. I probably will, along with greasing the lever pivots like @nd4spdbh and @BkerChuck suggested.

I should be getting the tank bag tomorrow as well but I’m not sure when the protective vinyl is coming.

i'm fairly insensitive to most meds. They'd given me a half a Xanax about 30 minutes before. Told to look at the bright light, then some machine came down and sucked my eye up to perform the operation. In and out in 15 minutes as well.

Why wouldn't you mount them this weekend? Unless current tires still have decent usable tread?

I’m lazy and was thinking of waiting till I changed all the fluids as well. The current tires have plenty of tread but are 80/20s.

I really wanna get a 2 stroke to be able to do some more of the hard enduro stuff a little easier. I wish some of my best trails weren't 2 hours away or I would be going to FRO much more often. I find myself needing to be good at what I have (pine barrens sand) but craving the rocks that are north west of me.
