Yeah saw that, and said to myself “what the fuck are you talking about dude!?”

Never really paid attention since I am comfortable in it, looked yesterday, my legs have a bend to them. Dunno, that is why I like the Toyotas, feel more like driving a car than a truck. I grew up on bench seats, that practically have you sitting straight up and down. Almost bought another 70s F250, test drove one and it reminded me how awful it was. Ahhh yeah, nostalgia is best left in the past.

Oof, it looks like that $44K TRD OR is actually going to be $48K+ to get the same essential stuff as the '23, namely 1) power rear slider and 2) power seat.

Probs closer to 50 since you can't spec shit and are at the whim of the dealer/toyota checking random boxes.

Don’t forget all the extra new features, drivetrain, suspension, frame, etc. you are getting for that money. People seem to forget it’s not a 1:1 comparison here. Not even close.

Toyota should just sell the old Tacoma alongside the new one the way American manufacturers do because they have literally priced themselves out of the market.

Tacoma Classic. Limit to one or two trims, set the price below $32,000, access cab only.

I just need a body on frame truck to haul building shit around the house, occasionally my mountain bike, and occasionally groceries.

But I don’t want a car based trucklet because Toyota has priced themselves out of the segment. That’s the problem.

This argument is ridiculous. No one except for some Toyota kooks, I mean enthusiasts think like this. The rest of the world does not want to pay thousands more for a different frame or suspension style.

I would love if Toyota would come out with a "Work Truck" edition of the Tacoma. For those of us that want a mid sized truck that can do actual work and tow more than a jetski instead of just looking pretty w/a 12 inch fancy touch screen and 16 cameras.
The perfect Tacoma - 5.7L V8 from the old Tundra, Access Cab w/6 foot bed, 10k lbs of towing capacity, all in a midsized package. Oh....and a radio I can connect my phone to. You can keep all the bullshit tech and automatic tailgate stuff for the kids.

So then buy a lower trim. You’re getting far more truck for more money.

Are you following the same info as the rest of us? You actually get less features in the lower trims than you used to.

In some cases, that’s true. In others, you’re getting far more

What specifically are the features that are adding all of this value, and under what use cases are they more valuable than a power seat and sliding rear glass?

The 2024 SR 4x4 is 36k. Mine was 29k. There is no more cheap option.

It’s $34,700. Your truck adjusted for inflation is $32,200 or so. It’s in the ballpark but significantly improved in many ways (noting that the rear doors stand as a significant exception)

My ‘21 SR ACLB V6 4WD was $32k and some change. The price increase is normal to me.

Granted with tax, extended warranty and add-ons bumped it to $39K and some change OTD.

Everyone acting like Toyota adds some predetermined margin to their cars. They price them at the most they can conceive people paying. It’s 100% a market based decision. Doesn’t matter if that rear link suspension adds 10k in parts and cost 100B to design. People will only pay a certain premium for it.

Some cases they’ll take a loss or smaller margin to gain market share. That’s not the case with the Tacoma. If the Ranger was to capture more customers, the street value of all those “features” Toyota is gracing us with in the 24 will drop in price. If they grow Tacoma market share, they will raise the price again.

Precisely why a 2023 MacBook Pro doesn’t cost $130,000 because it’s 60x faster than the 2004 model. Or on the flip side, why the 4Runner on a 19 year old platform is still 45-55k when R&D is long paid for and they can build them in their sleep. Market price.

Those are features, I as a buyer, like and I believe are worth paying for. Don't have much stock or care about the electronic creature comfort stuff/nanny crap. Overall, I am very likely going full size for the next truck, but I look forward to seeing and driving the 4th gen.
