It does have the potential (or did) to be a good thread but obviously we are NOT all adults here. To bad these threads can't be conducted face to face I think the content would be much different.

Thanks for the information on Can-Back. I had a chance yesterday to look at a Can-Back on a Ford F-250. While I like the idea of the rack system and the canvas looked to be a heavier grade otherwise the stitching and construction was very similar to the Softopper I currently have. I do think for price and looks the Bestop or Softopper are a better way to go. For the price of a Can-Back I would have looked to purchase a Fiberglass or aluminum shell. Personally I went with the Softopper for the ease of removal, lighter weight and the looks of it. I did not expect it to be 100% waterproof or add any security to the truck although it does keep things pretty dry and secure in the sense that if they cannot see it they may not steal it.

I would still stand by my all Toppers leak then grab a hose and do It. Face to face would not change my experiences with the Toppers I have had. My face to face is the same as I type on the internet. Now as for security with the bestop there is none. But I have stated in different bestop threads that I have left my high end mountain bike back there to go eat. My fire gear is constantly back there for various amounts of time. The only security it has really is the windows are dark and sometimes hard to see in.

It never ceases to amaze me how some, who have only been around for a short time, with a brand new Tacoma, probably first time owner, will argue with someone who has been around Tacomas for years, and with thousands of posts.

Not saying everyone with thousands of posts is an expert, but if they've been around that long, I would sure listen to them.

does anyones rear bar which the rear window is attached to slide off the part it attaches to often.... mine just doesnt want to stay on....also i think the window is too long or something, its not tight it curves inside somewhat because there is slack, its almost asthough it is not tight enough in the upward direction...

    do it!!
mine stays on there pretty tight. I had to mount it like 3 different ways before I got it on there right. I think its obvious what rail the rear window slides into. once that is in you want to spin the bar 90 degrees towards the truck and hook one side of the bar into the right side, then hook the left side in ( pick one, doenst matter which one goes in first). this way the rear window doesnt have "slack" in it and its in there tight.

At first I had problems with the j-hook at the top staying in place but once I figured out the bottom everything was fine.

    As needed, and some not.
Anyone have a custom rack above your soft top? I'm looking for ideas for my own build, but I'm having trouble finding any pictures. Thanks for any help.

What part is loose? Mine is super tight all over. The only part that would "flop" would be the forward facing window if it is really windy and the velcro comes undone. Other than that I drove in 60 mph winds last weekend and it didn't flap around at all.

Maybe push the forward bars up another notch to make it more rigid if possible.

It tells you no rack on the top of it as it can't really support any weight. So I would suggest just getting a rack for the top of the cab.

Softopper has a rack available, not sure if it would work the bestop but is not incorporated into the topper itself so it may work with either top.
