He left before my drawing. I was one of the last of the night.
I did mention i’d take it off his hands though, but it looked like his wife wanted it for Irish coffee….
Plus the prego wife wanted to keep the wine so she could have something to celebrate with after baby arrives

Crazy prices on regular Hakushu 12 and Yamazaki 12, but these "100 Year Anniversary" bottles are ridiculous. From every description I could find on line, even the distillers site, there's nothing different than the regular juice. Except the price and the gold/green shiny triangle thing on the box!

I had to grind about 30lbs of venison with my new grinder tonight. New grinder, new bottle. I loved the color of the pour. I’m still internalizing the flavor profile. There is a quick burst of sweetness up front. Followed by a warm burn and oak. There’s lots more going on with it, but I’m not the best at breaking it down lol. I’m looking forward to my next pour already. Cheers.

Dalwhinnie 15 is the picture they have in the dictionary next to the word smooth. Unbelievably silky, buttery, completely tame. It's not gonna punch you in the mouth or give your throat 3rd degree burns. A bit sweet (maybe 2 bits) and malty. Like some Japanese whiskies, there's a hint of smoke.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Aromatic, toffee, fruit salad, lush nectarine, custard. Floral, apple blossom, honeysuckle. Apple peels, pear, touch of smoke.

Palate Malty. Walnuts steeped in manuka honey with vanilla sponge. Gentle smoke weaves its way through the cereal with a touch of spice.

    Finish Long, malty, walnut, almond.

I really enjoyed that one and I usually lean toward the peatier scotches, but it was good. I snagged it at Trader Joe’s for 55 and kept thinking they had to have had it priced wrong, it’s still 55 though

I have heard this theory about letting whiskey breathe. They may be on to something.

This comes in at 59.05%, not JDSBBP but still higher than most of the bourbon I drink. I opened it, poured it, sipped it and got immediate heartburn. The taste of oak and caramel was there but it also had a strong alcohol taste and smell. The kind that gives you a quiver when you sip it.

I thought about getting some ice on the next pour but I let it sit for about 5 minutes instead. Made quite a difference, mellowed out. Much more enjoyable.

It’s still not my favorite pour for the price point but it’s unique and good to have if you want variety in your collection.

You ever wonder if people are just making this crap up and then others agree because of the power of suggestion? :D

Oh, definitely. Most people’s palates aren’t well developed enough to pick up all the different flavors and scents that a reviewer might claim. And everyone’s palate is different. Plus, the flavors are so subtle sometimes, a comment from a trusted and respected reviewer or marketing can certainly lead to “oh yeah I taste that”.
