‘24 emissions isn’t up yet on the government site. Would be curious how much different it is (if at all) since gas mileage is basically the same.

Oh I'm not doubting you. Just sounds crazy to me. The window sticker in my 2016 is still in my glove box. Fully loaded '16 sport for 38k. Your dealer buying it for 39k means they will have it on their lot for what, 45k?

It’s strange that Toyota would build this adventure/Overlanding truck and give it such a small fuel tank/range. Not too long ago jeep used to promote their 500 mile range in the grand Cherokee.

That would be fine for most of my travel’s but wouldn’t work for snowboarding or vacations. I guess I could just take the wife’s 4Runner.

Looks like there isn’t much difference between the current 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder. The turbo 4 has got to burn more fuel than the current NA 4. We’re getting scammed.

Ranger is the close to compare to the 4G, low trims are a little better, higher trims getting about the same as the current V6.

I had a 2022 Ranger Tremor. It got better than advertised MPG. Think I got 23-24 on the highway. Speaking of highway, it was undriveable at over 60 MPH and I sold it to Carvana after 5 months. I only lost $700. Something with the springs or shock valving made it worse than an old Jeep Wrangler at highway speeds. It was borderline unsafe. Never again! I'll wait for my Taco!

I have exceeded mpg ratings in every vehicle I have owned. Except for my Tacoma...

My experience is that small displacement turbos really reward economy minded drivers and punish the hell out of those who are aggressive, in regards to mpg.

Probably depends on where you live but I average ~21.5 MPG during the summer in mixed driving (with a cap) on mostly flat terrain. Once the cold sets in, I can't get 20. With my granny driving habits I bet I could get the I4 turbo to 23, but that wont be for awhile, if ever.

Yes, because if you granny-foot an I4T, it essentially becomes an I4.

So people want more torque across all rpms but don't want the downsides of having that. Poor tacoma designers cant please everyone. If you are worried about mpg get a Prius.

No offense. But you guys are very eco-friendly it seems. Chasing the best mph you can get. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I have a buddy with the same Jeep make and model as me and he refuses to do any mods, he always chasing the ECO light that turns on in the gauge cluster. That is his whole driving experience. Chasing the best MPH he can squeeze… I would be miserable.

Life is too short for all that. I enjoy driving. I bought my BMW twin T because I wanted performance. I wanted to be able to accelerate out of corners like a screaming banshee Indian in heat. Haha!

I have not seen the ECO light in my Jeep since I test drove it.

if I wanted efficiency I would drive a Honda civic or something… but that’s no fun.

I used to chase mph too, but also had my license suspended for drag racing…

    You can have both.

    The answer is diesel.

Wanting better mpg is more about further range for me. Would go to the filling station less.

With the Tacoma getting so expensive, those who want both are probably better off getting a Silverado 1500 diesel. Won’t save any money though.

I need one do-it-all vehicle, sure better mileage would be nice in the Taco. Spend about $4000/year on fuel. You could buy a Prius as a second vehicle for a commuter, might save on fuel but it wouldn’t save you any money overall. That $35K+ buys an awful lot of fuel for one vehicle. About 8.75 years worth for the Tacoma, that doesn’t include the extra maintenance and insurance costs either.

The iForce Max may actually give a noticeable boost in MPG. Probably the 27mpg that the LC will get.

Even though the Tacoma and the tundra both have the same 48hp electric motor, the Tacoma gets a 149 lb-ft torque bump and the Tundra only gets a 104 lb-ft increase. Since the Tundra weighs 1,000lb more, the electric only 104 lb-ft isn't going to move the truck far or fast. But the lighter Tacoma with 149 lb-ft will probably go full electric to higher speeds for longer times.

When you figure the old 2.7 only had 180 lb-ft and that moved the truck around without any problems the electric only Tacoma should do all right. Yes the old 2.7 Tacoma was lighter that a new Max Tacoma, but the electric max torque comes on a 0 rpm vs 3,800 rpm and the new Tacoma has two extra gears.

I proudly got 16 mpg in my FJ on a good cycle, so, not an “eco-warrior”. But if you told me a year ago that an OR w a 4cyl & vinyl seats would cost 53k, features aside, I would’ve expected even higher levels of torque combined w much better mpg. Plus maybe gold plated tire chains & a lifetime membership to jelly of the month club.

Hybrid looks promising to check those boxes, though, again…at what prices. $$$$
