What could make a click click sound behind driver side dash area?

    2023 tacoma, 8k miles.

Well, this is an odd one. This noise started happening once the cold weather has set in(live in the northeast). I did just have the airbag recall done a few weeks ago, where they replaced the spiral cable.

Driver side upper part of the dash, I would say somewhere behind the air vent area, I get a random click click. Almost sound like a relay. It's random but will happen while driving or idling. Seems the colder it is out, the more frequent it happens which is weird. It's always a double click. I took a drive last weekend when it was 50ish out and the noise never happened. Drove to work today, 25 degrees out and it happened about 15 times during my 30 min commute.

My 2018 company tacoma has never made this noise.

Noise goes away when the truck gets warmer? It’s plastic somewhere.

When it was 50 out the other day I didn't hear it. The last few days it's been in the high 20s low 30s and I hear it the entire time the truck is running. My commute is 30ish mins, so the truck is plenty warm.

I do get some dash creaks here and there when it's cold. But this sound like a relay going click click.

Are you running the defroster on the cold days but not the warm days?

Usually run it for the first 15 mins of driving, then turn it off.

The clicking happens no matter what the Hvac controls are set too.

I noticed the EXACT same thing on my truck after the airbag recall. i’ve only had the truck back for a week, but it’s crazy annoying. Did you ever get anywhere with this?

I haven't gone into the dealer yet. But the noise is deff still there.

It for sure happened after the airbag recall for me. I would have noticed it before. It is quite annoying.

I have an appt next Monday to drop the truck off. I have noticed also that when I turn the steering wheel to the right, I get a click as well. Sounds like its coming right from the steering wheel.

Does anyone know where the air bag module plugs into or where the harness runs to under the dash?

My '23 does this too, and was not part of the airbag recall. I figured it was somewhat normal after searching and seeing other users notice it on their trucks too.

Following thread though if any good info comes

I couldn't find any other threads about it. Most mention the right-side making noise. Mine is 100% on the left side.

2020 TRD OR. I hear a click when I first start rolling, reverse and forward. Under dash, drivers side. Only happens once in R then once in D.
Went to the dealership, tech and I drove another new TRD OR. Did the exact same thing.
    Some type of actuator?

Mine does it at random while driving and sometimes idling. Sometimes it's just a click and sometimes is a super-fast click click.

I don't hear any click when going from D to R.

I read somewhere around here that the one time click (when I release the clutch the first time in gear) after startup is the ABS checking itself

Did you ever get any closure on this with a dealer? I have a 2016 with about 98k on it and mine just started doing it about a month ago. I finally took it to the dealer and they still have it. I rode with a tech to make sure they knew what they were listening for, and he heard it but was stumped about what it might be. On mine it is definitely behind the left side of the driver's side dash and randomly clicks, mostly above about 35 mph and more so on rougher pavement. No correlation to speeding up or slowing down, using brakes etc. I had the same thought as you, it sounds to me like a relay clicking on and off, but there is no rhythm or pattern to it.
