I miss my old commute. About 10 mins door to door. I think it was two traffic lights lol

Lol I tried to upload the video itself, but damn Youtube has decided that any video under a minute is automatically a 'short' and thus cannot be shared the same as a normal video. And they retroactively converted the entire library of old sub-60s videos into 'shorts' as well.

 

Wow that’s weird. I’m still trying to avoid paying for the ad-free version. I refuse to give them my money haha.

 

My current commute is just less than 3 miles each way, door to door. :-/ But it will be worth it to not have to rent. Much more worth it.

 

Id like my commute to be like 20-30 min but that will never happen… well if I get full remote, that would be great

Our housing is "new" - probably from the early 80s. And the design is terrible. The build materials/maintenance is what you'd expect from a housing contractor solely worried about the bottom dollar mixed with regulator stuff. One year the housing contractor wanted to put $10k of their own money into each unit and could not get final approval from DA. BS like that, ya know? I think having much easier access for friends and family is going to be the biggest lifestyle benefit of moving off base. No worrying about giving them gate instructions or meeting them off post and all that.

 

Do I get it?

Why exactly do you live on post if you’re a civilian?

For the past decade or more, Civs, Contractors, Veterans, etc are eligible for on-post housing. It's this way at probably most CONUS bases. Once military housing drops to some percentage they open it up. APG used to have a shit-ton more Soldiers than now - hence large otherwise-empty housing. They charge us (supposedly) Market-rent-rates. We live in the non-updated housing while Soldiers (deservedly) live in the nicer and/or newer places. Some older homes are nicer than what we have, see attached. Half of those homes (generally occupied by field grades, though some of the historic houses have GS Civs) are right on the water. No utilities costs are a perk. Putting up with at times arbitrary rules for living and probably, situationally, some of the worst customer service I've seen from a Property manager is a draw back.

Well I accepted the job in Park City, Utah yesterday. If anyone is out there on a trip hit me up and I should have some camp spots known. My second stint in Maryland was good mostly just last year or so at work wasn't the greatest. Hopefully the new job and change in scenery will do me good.
