All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    @but why tho
Just noticed your into RC as well. I got a couple crawlers I mess around with. Nice little rigs you got there. I have been wanting an FJ80 Land Cruiser.

The Tuono would make a great tourer with a few tweaks. I also have bar risers on mine and it made a noticeable difference.

Yep! Been into RC since I was a teenager. Unfortunately I don't have much time/money to mess with RC since I'd rather be doing motorcycle stuff. :D

Fuel range is the big thing really. My hyper will go 2.5x the distance between fillups. There's definitely a few rides I had to bow out of due to distance between gas stations. To do Mt St Helens you need 180~ miles of range. Can't do that with the apes.

So I was riding the ST back home in the rain and was splitting lanes up to a stop light when it turned green as I was approaching the light, so I got on the gas hard while on the lane markings. Bike got a little sideways and the TCS light started flashing, so I had to try it again... and again.

The bike lights up the rear wheel so easily in the wet it's ridiculous. I love it. (but will need to be careful!)

just a couple of things tbh
so went to another dealer yesterday to check out another cbr500r (they said they had the red one but nope only grey!) this dealer ive dealt with a lot in the past and has always had better prices on bikes, gear, parts (usually where i get my stuff from) well the grey one they had was only 7700 which is over msrp but not by much and got to asking him about extended warranty and overall reliability of the bike. told me the maintenance package is a few grand depending on what id want which kinda sucks... he then took me over to service so we could ask them about the bike and how much certain things cost.
oil change- less then 100 (cant remember exact number sorry..)
tire change-30 bucks a wheel if off the bike and 60 if on the bike
valve clearance check at 16k miles-250 (said if it needs adjusted it would be another 30 bucks)
few other small things i cant remember
so overall unless something catastrophic happened nothing seems to pricey on the cbrs unlike the ninja where its valve job is 950 on the low end when asking around and that was just one thing.

then asked about overall reliability and both guys have mentioned they have a few guys that have these bikes and all of them are over 50k miles without any issues. the bikes run great with little maintenance and low cost. they have two guys that track them for fun and have had no issues with them either so not all of the ones they know about are ridden softly so id say thats a good thing about the bike overall ya?

sadly cant buy anything right now (even thou it was hard to walk away yesterday lol) gotta wait till some stuff at work gets sorted out (new contract) and after all thats said and done ill hopefully be able to get one here in a few months

Lol that is a lot of fun... my old Yamaha Bolt would spin the tire so easily on wet roads. One day I noticed a guy in a car behind me getting a kick out of it. I would take off from a stop and once the back end stepped out click it into second and it would break loose again :burnrubber:

$100 for an oil change vs less than $300 for the valve adjustment is crazy to me. I like doing my own work but for under $300 I'd let the dealer do it all day.

@nd4spdbh I found this on the Yamaha Super Tenere forum for the brake bleed procedure - does it look about right?

ya the oil change i know im wrong on thats why i said below 100 since i cant remember it haha. the valve check/adjustment is cheap and way cheaper then the ninja since most of its components that hold it in adjustment need replaced while the cbr just normally needs looked at. i do all my own work until it reaches a point i dont have the tools or the know how to do it so id prob take it to a dealer for the valves.

It will roll on power wheelie in first without much effort, 2nd gear a lil fan of the clutch and up she comes (till traction control shuts the wheelie down).

FYI, There are 2 tractions mods, TCS 1 is default and allows for a little slip, TCS 2 allows for more slip. TCS 1 is generally thought as on road, you can turn it off by coming to a full stop and holding the TCS button down till it shows off... then you can have all the wheelie fun!

While yup the 1200cc parallel twin has TONS of grunt - wait till you find out that in 1st - 3rd the throttle blades of the throttle bodies dont open all the way (even if the throttle is twisted all the way) till 6k rpms somewhat limiting power output below 6k rpms in 1st through 3rd. ECU flash fixes that. While yup there are 2 cables from the grip like a normal bike without fly by wire, but they actually just go down to a sensor on the throttle bodies which are then controlled by a servo motor for fly by wire.

Also note the drive modes (Sport and Touring) which change the mapping of the throttle twist grip to actual throttle blade opening - The super tenere has a quirk that not every time you go to power up the bike will it stay in Sport, so if you hop on and go gdamn the bike feels anemic I can almost guarantee that it magically went into T mode. Some of my changes regarding the physical switch for T mode here - https://yamahasupertenere.com/index...switch-fix-it-to-how-it-should-of-been.33330/

Those Honda 500 parallel twin motors seem to be some of the best all around reliable motors produced in recent years. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one used what so ever!

That sounds familiar to what I remember doing to cycle the ABS pump on mine, which reminds me, I should do again its been a year (though it gets ran often during riding shenanigans)

So... I've been riding around in T haha. S is even more rowdy so while getting used to the bike I've been in T. I like your mod, though! If I ever have issues with my switch I'll follow your guide.

Similar to the FJR settings. I consider the T mode more like a rain mode. Softens throttle response.

All of my parts I'd ordered for the 2013 have now arrived and it's supposed to be reasonably warm on Sunday but rainy. Looks like a good garage day to try and get everything installed.
