If you had a fuel delivery issue it would show up as high long term fuel trim readings. Like +15-20%. A weak pump, poor quality fuel, etc..

It could be your tach is working just fine.

It goes to 0 because the ignition shuts off .the signal from the igniter is not going to your tach

If your fuel shut off the tach would still show the rpm till the engine ran completely out of fuel and stopped.

Do you run junk yard gas through any added filters or direct to the tank??

You might have poor gas and a ignition problem.

Water and hot spark plugs are not a good mix

How do the plugs look ??[9

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe try swapping the horn relay with the fuel injector EFI relay

Didn’t overheat or lose coolant. Burned oil though. Still getting intermittent issues like you described which makes me think it’s also fuel related. I also got all the misfire codes.

haven't checked the spark plugs since they were changed some years ago. but after what happened yesterday (which ill be editing into the original post in just a moment) I did put some fuel on a rag and held it up to the air intake and the car started so im like 90% sure its a bad pump. and the only "filter" I run the gas at the yards thru is a t-shirt or a rag.:der:which is really more like straining which ive just been informed that is far from efficient/sufficient. Live and learn right lol

I feel you, but the tachometer goes bonkers even when the truck is driving fine, shifting appropriately, and at any speed.

Yep, that means the system is struggling to achieve the correct mixture. It keeps trying to add fuel and add fuel but the oxygen sensors keep seeing too much air.

Check fuel pressure, look for intake vacuum leaks, make sure all the ducting between the MAF sensor and throttle body is secure

Could be a poor connection that opens at times along with an ignition problem.

So many different things can trip that PO171 code.

One thing at a time no friends close that can help?

Now that you know the cel code, it would be worthwhile to do a little research on here. There are quite a few things that can trigger that code and there are lots and lots of threads that talk about it.

Fuel pressure is at nil lol. There are no vacuum leaksand all ducting from MAF to throttle body are secure and in place. I just dropped the tank (hopefully I can remember where all the damn hoses were connected)

Yes sir. that's what im doing. And as for friends, I did get some guidance from someone whose opinion I really value and have l know since the 10th grade. I also have a friend here who helped me drop the tank and will be helping reinstall it too.

Taking a break now while I research how to replace the fuel pump. IF anyone has any wisdom to share please feel free.

Depending where the truck lives a new fuel pump bracket is a great idea .

    A new fuel filter .

If you dropped the tank without breaking anything you did good

hey good morning. So I don't think I broke anything. but I may have damaged the clamp on the fuel supply hose a bit :/ besides that the tank just ways so much nice the is some gas in it and the homie that helped me drop it is passed out. not sure how ill get it back up there. can you send me a photo of te "bracket" you mentioned please? Also there is only one fuel filter correct? how often should it be changed?
