Last time I bought a new motorcycle I paid an ADM. would have waited two years to enjoy myself over a couple hundred bucks (~10% over MSRP).

if people value the timeliness of getting the vehicle enough to pay more, why judge them? That’s the market at work

My most recent purchase, I told him I wasn’t interested in paying a dealer markup or add-ons when they presented me with that pricing. They did it kind of late in the game and I told them that they wasted their day, I don’t do business with dealers to do that, and not to contact me again. I was polite but I told him I was pissed off for wasting my day.

Manager called back and within a few minutes all the market adjustment and add-ons were gone and I was agreeing to a MSRP deal.

When I got into finance, the price went under MSRP when we started moving money around to get the discounted warranty.

I agree with others that if they want to pay a markup to get a vehicle right away, that’s their choice, it makes shopping for some of us more of a pain in the ass. I seriously don’t understand why someone would want to do that unless it was just a few hundred bucks for something you would have to wait a long for as mentioned above.

If you are ok and have the means to overpay for a product go for it. Just to bring up that there are other dealers down to sell at the MSRP. It not a bash on the customer, it’s a bash on dealers being clowns.

A lot of the buyers for the C8 Corvette paid 20-30k over sticker because the dealers told them the MSRP wait was 12-18 months.

Tacoma shenanigans might get interesting. Supply and demand is a bitch sometimes.

Notice the manual trans in the longbed? Doesn’t exist, could get him for false advertising.

And to begin with it’s a corvette, with a mid engine at a pretty reasonable price. Some people were getting it at msrp with and agreement of keeping the car for a year I believe. They were getting penalized for selling prior to those 12 mo.

Paid more than I wanted on my ‘21, but desperately needed a new truck. Was absolutely thrilled just to get a new truck. Also lost a $500 deposit on a Ranger, had money down on both and told each dealer whomever gets me a truck first gets more of my money.

Would have cost me more renting a vehicle to get around than the amount I over paid.

You couldn’t get them for false advertising unless you actually bought something under false pretenses. You’d have no standing for your lawsuit

Giving it a year to sit back and watch the madness unfold, but really don’t need a new truck. My wife could use one though. She gets the 3rd Gen when I buy a newer one.

It seems to be set into the general mindset of consumers now that vehicles will cost more than MSRP, used cars cost more than new cars, and you should be glad that the dealer is even allowing you to buy a car. This is the same type of battered spouse mindset homebuyers in California have had to endure.

When I was buying my truck, which isn’t even that ridiculous or a desirable configuration, two of the three dealerships I was working with wanted either $2500 or $5000 above MSRP.

When I told one dealer that I refuse to pay it, he said well “maybe you can come in and we can work something out.”

I told him “it’s pretty far for me to drive if you can’t offer MSRP,” and he’s like “you can talk to my manager when you come in.” And I’m like “I’m willing to buy the truck today if you give it to me at MSRP,” and he’s like “I can’t authorize that over the phone.”

    Are people stupid these days?

$5000 is a lot of money for anyone.

Do they just not care because it gets lost in the 84 month loan?

It might technically be a crime, but wasting your time and effort over something that’s easily hand-waved away as a listing error is more than I’d be willing to endure

This is an oldie, but when the fifth generation 4runner first came out Toyota put a four-cylinder rear wheel drive variant on their website for $24999.

Every dealership in the country immediately put it in their advertising that they have new Toyota 4Runners and they start at $24999!!!

It turns out that it’s a white whale, and over the years no one has actually seen one. It’s deep Toyota lore if they even built any, I assume they would have to to meet some type of minimum bullshit advertisement compliance law, or something.
