Ok I thought that this would be simple. However, last night we installed an ultimate kit from Toytech. The front went together in a snap but we had major concerns with the rear add a leaf. My truck is an 09 with a three leaf plus overload pack. When putting the new leaf between the overload and the last leaf its length would interfere with the rear containment clip. We then separated the leafs and then snuck the new add a leaf between the 2nd and third leafs. So now it goes top, middle, add a leaf, last, and then overload.

    Thoughts......

Ill snap and post pictures asap but am worried that this is a bad thing. Please advise.

Yeah. That's not correct. The AAL has a long end and short end. And it goes above the over load leaf. I bet u tried to install backwards

Sounds like you got the wrong AAL for the Tacoma.

So what do I do. It's all installed. I've sent a note to Toytech but will not hear back from them until mid week I bet. If it's in and together is it gonna cause issues or fail. Should I leave it ..... I just am upset I quess.

Were there different rear kits for the tsb and non tsb? Haven't had my morning coffee yet, but if you have 4 total leafs, you have the tsb....

I know the aal for non-tsb is 2", and the tsb is 1.5". Not sure if the lengths are different though.....

my biggest concern is now that i have one lower leaf that is not carrying load because the add a leaf is above it thus putting more strain on its arch... less load carrying capacity...

    ---------Main top Leaf----------
    .......-----Middle Leaf-----
    .........\..................../
    ..........-Add -a- Leaf-
    ..........---lower leaf---
    ............--overload--

The AAL needs to be on the bottom.

Now I understand your concern. Take it apart and return everything to the original, return the aal's and be sure to let whoever it is that this did not work for you because......... and tell them what will work.

I still think you got the 2" aal when you needed the 1.5" tsb leaf...

OP, I don't think you put it on wrong. I had the same problem but I read that the rear containment clip needs to be removed. (I started a thread about how to remove it).

Anyway, you have to grind off the rivet from the rear retaining clip to get it off....then the new AAL has it's own retaining clip that goes around the whole leaf pack.

Some people, however, have just rested the new AAL on the old retaining clip because they didn't know they were supposed to take it off, and they said they haven't noticed any adverse effects. This is not recommended, but apparently, it's an option. I just wanted it to be right, so i went out and bought an angle grinder and will go back at it tomorrow.

    Hope that helps man.

PS: The thread that I started on how to remove the old clip, wasn't a "how to", it was a question to others here of "how do i remove it" type thing. The thread is called "Grinder or cutoff tool (AAL Install)"

One other thing...I think you are probably putting on the 3 leaf pack, and not the single leaf AAL, correct?

With all due respect, I don't think the 1.5" or 2" has anything to do with it.

I don't think he got the wrong AAL. I think the difference is in the 3 leaf AAL pack vs. the single leaf AAL.

The single leaf AAL does not interfere w/ the retaining clip on the rear of the stock leaf pack. The 3 leaf AAL does interfere and therefore the stock retaining clip needs to be removed.

I'm planning to cut mine off, but now that I'm thinking about it...what if I want to go back to stock at some point (to sell the truck, etc)? I guess there's probably an aftermarket retaining clip that I could put on at that point though, so I guess I'll still go ahead and remove it. Just doesn't seem right to have the new leaf pack resting on the rivet of the old retaining clip, although as I mentioned, I've seen it done in a couple pictures in doing research on this.

The OP didnt state he has the 3 leaf AAL. He mentioned it being 1 leaf, and him installing it inbetween the lower leaf and the second leaf in the spring pack. Thats no bueno.
