Man am I glad I bought my '20 when I did. Prices of vehicles and homes are insane now. I can't imagine choking on the payments people do that need a new vehicle and place to live right now.

 

And add on the costs after the warranty to keep all the non needed bells and whistles going.
And yes they do break at one point, more gizmos, more risk/expense.
At the labor costs today, be prepared.

After wading through 15 pages, I noticed that no one mentioned the fact that Toyota includes as a base feature on all the Tacomas, among other vehicles --- Toyota Safety Sense™ P(TSS-P):
Including, * Pre-Collision System w/Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), * Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), * Lane Departure Alert, * Automatic High Beams (AHB) *

I love the adaptive cruise control, never having had it before. And the poor schmuck Andre over at TFL expressing surprise that his new Chevy Trail Boss did not include it? Seriously Andre? How do you sell top of the line truck packages and not have adaptive cruise control? I like the fact that Subaru and Toyota have both made these packages standard safety features that include the conveniences. Looking at the Ford - Chevy - Ram build sites they seem to hide that cruise control and make it an option outside of their own add on packages.

Trail Boss is a base truck with a lift. Although I agree adaptive CC should be standard. Love it on road trips.

 

Yep. Trail boss can’t even get heated seats as an option. I started looking at them thinking they’d be a steal and quickly realized the zr2 is the only Chevy that I’ll bother considering, so the price differences kinda narrowed

 

My ‘21 SR has most of those options, don’t think it has the pedestrian alert. Don’t really care for the adaptive cruise control, it likes to brake at the oddest moments. It can’t tell that when a vehicle in front of you is making a right turn, there is usually plenty of time between you and it not having to brake as that vehicle exits the roadway. Had people almost rear end me because it slams on the brakes.

It is unfortunate that the other manufacturers don’t have it their base, iirc it is around a $900 option for everything . Have built a base model Colorado DCSB 4WD and kept it around $35K, where a Toyota SR 4WD DCSB starts at $36,900. So cost is roughly the same.

Ya know, for Andre being a “truck expert” he sure doesn’t know how to fill out an order sheet. Would expect more out of a software engineer turn automotive journalist. Remember watching one of their early videos testing a Sprinter, came upon a rancher moving stock down the road, he was freaking out, thought to myself this guy is clueless and doesn’t know anything about manual labor let alone anything about trucks…

 

I have to find the video, when Andre realizes he does not have cruise control on his new truck (He wanted it!). The strangest part of that decision on Chevy's part is that the steering wheel already has the buttons for adaptive cruise control ready to use, but they are not functional? (At least that is what I thought Andre was showing). So is the add-on a software / firmware update that would provide that function, even after purchase? Probably not, unless the front radar system was in place and could be turned on. Andre has not spent much time explaining it, probably because --as a TFL truck person -- it looks like he dropped the ball on his own purchase.

 

Recommendation: Stop watching TFL videos.

My aunt and her best friend is what turned me onto Toyotas, they both had matching ‘86 pickups, aunt’s was blue her friend’s white, each with a high rise camper shell. Thought it was the coolest thing. They were outdoorsy before outdoorsy was cool. Were into backpacking and rafting at the time.

Remember when I was a young teen, we took a RV cross country trip to AZ from PA, Toyotas were everywhere, wasn’t like that back in PA at the time, would get teased relentlessly if you had “Jap Crap”…and they did when I bought my first one, thought my good ol’ boy dad was going to disown me when I bought my ‘85 4Runner. Eventually moved to AZ in that 4Runner.

 

Well, OP got to the relevant point which is pricing is similar if similar features are compared. He is humble bragging that he suffered through TFL so we don't have to. To him, I salute you!

 

Is that a generac 4000EXL behind the seat? You must be immune to gas fumes, I bolted my 4000 to the bed up against the cab, and made a slip on cover that sits about four inches from the bottom so it could breathe.

 

Finally someone noticed! Think it is a Honda. Clearly whoever staged that has no idea what they are doing. Used to haul firewood in my 4Runner, spilled nearly a gallon of saw gas in it, that was awful. Thought I really need a truck, and did, sold that and bought a ‘92 RC.

I’d go with 5th gen Ram 1500 5.7 4x4 8 speed, get similar or better mileage. More capable, a cowboy Cadillac interior and ride, dealers are finally starting to discount them off the insane markups…at least on the Bighorn models which are still very well equipped.
I still love Toyota but they’re not in the same league as the big three yet/still. Just my opinion. We’ll see if that changes once I drive the new Tacoma. At my more mature age, it’s more about the drive than what’s on paper.
For that kind of cash I’ll live with the behemoth size and enjoy a full size bed.

 

Definitely a Generac. I’m a generator whore, plus I have one of those and that control panel is identical.

 

Yeah looking at the local offerings, seeing $10K+ discounts. Why wouldn’t you buy a full-size!? Thinking a year from now the discounts will get even better.
Buddy of mine is a long time Ram truck owner, they ride awfully nice, and that 5.7 V8 is a hoot. Same mpg as my Taco too.

I just glanced at the color saw red and assumed it was a Honda, thought Generacs were orange. So what it is it 3500-4000 watt?
