I know a couple people in the vintage computer community that started their own dial-up ISP. It's free but for obvious reasons there aren't that many lines to call into.

My first dedicated card I ever got was the famous scam card, the GeForce FX 5200

You know as shitty as that card was for basically lying about it specs to the public... It did what I wanted to do pretty well. Which was mostly just play flight simulator 2004. When I finally built a dedicated PC for gaming out of all brand new parts for the first time I did spring for it GeForce 9800 GT, basically blew my whole Budget on that and then got a AMD quad-core processor but it was the original phenom which had terrible bus speeds and basically bottlenecked my card.

Damn, what was it about those cards? I never knew the whole story around it.

I was into the ATI Radeon cards until we got away from AGP, then I went Nvidia.

Techs been a fun ride the last 40 years. My first comp was an Apple IIGS. That bad boy was leaps ahead of it's time. 16bit and a whopping 2.8MHz clock speed. lol

    Nevermind, 9800 I don't know why I thought it was a 9600

But I guess the Thinkpad would satisfy the desire to build an old school rig

The whole FX line was terrible and barely a step up from the much older MX line with a larger pricetag. nVidia had good drivers though, AMD was killing it technology wise vs nVIdia but their drivers were dogshit and they had no money to bribe game devs for optimization so they needed their superior performance just to brute force compatibility and it never materialized as extra performance.

I only had Circuit City to look forward to nearby; the trips to San Jose were awesome though cause Fry's was my go-to
